Welcome back to today's episode of The Young and Clucking... Last season saw Bitchena dealing with psychotic behaviors and postpartum broodiness over loss of her clutch and Bielle is simply one of a trio who no one ever rembers.
Today we find our leading ladies Bitchena and Bielle have been...
Thank you all for the advice about broody hens. I wrote my post to just to vent a little about the craziness of my birds this year with everyone wanting to be a mama.
Let me set the stage... I have a hen and for lack of a better word she's a b***h. I thought Buff Orpingtons were supposed to be nice but I digress... Well I got behind collecting eggs a few weeks ago and low and behold this hell hen has taken up residence in a nesting box packed with about 15...
My hubby said this first little baby looked smug atop its unhatched siblings. Im trying to resist the urge to hover over the incubator and watch some of the others hatch.
Came home to some over achievers. I hope this isn't a silly question but do you absolutely have to take the egg turner out of the incubator. This is my first time using this model and the hubby wanted to keep it in to keep the chicks from knocking each other over but I'm on the fence.
I'm super late to this but I'm in lockdown with my eggs. Finally talked the hubby into a Nature Right 360 to incubate the eggs this time. Im hatching Bielefelders and hopefully a few Biele/55 Flower Hen crosses. Here is "Biele Bob" and his ladies can't wait to see the babies.
It is with great sadness that I have to announce Miss U (name change to promote feather positivity within the flock) got killed by a hawk yesterday. My kids were very upset because they liked Miss U because she looked so different from our other young birds. It is a shame that we won't get to...
Hi I started my Bielefelder journey back in April but just found this thread. My first group of girls I got from a local lady who's stock came from Omega Hills and Greenfire Farms. I bought 3 chicks the first time, all girls, but the neighbors dog decided to visit so now I have 2. They're 23...
This is my cockerel "Biele Bob" he's roughly 19 weeks old now and so far seems to be a good boy. How does he fit to the SOP? Then I have Harmony and Starla and who are both 23 weeks old. Harmony is the lighter breasted of the two and is my talker whenever I spend time in their pen.
Thank you so much! That makes a lot of sense. I don't know a lot about the genetics in birds but I want to learn more. Is it normal for the chick to be displaying such a large dark pink comb at roughly 6 weeks old?
Allow me to set the stage. I had a wonderful roo that was a White Rock BO cross that did the deed with my pure BO hens. Now many weeks down the road I am presented with these offspring who are both 13 weeks old. Then there's this little surprise guy from my broody hen (sorry for the bad pics...
Here are my 2 favorites are again at 16 weeks old now. My daughter is in love with the little cockerel and his name is Jeff.... the little girl doesn't have a name and isn't to people friendly.
Soooo this is definitely not a girl. He is now almost 21 weeks old. Just waiting on him to start crowing. He doesn't like people so its hard to get pictures. This is him and his mom.
Thank you everyone! I honestly agree she isn't ugly anymore. She's a lot more approachable versus her hatch mates and willing to brave the guantlet of big girls to get treats.
Introducing Ugly! So this little girl/boy?? is a fun little cross between my sneaky American gamebird Elvis and one of my Australorp hens. Its name came from an extremely rough looking feather development. Ugly is about 12 weeks old. Any ideas on if its a boy or a girl?
