    Run bedding

:old Any recommendations or tips for a bedding for a run? It has a concrete base and I want to create it from scratch. For the coop I'm using a deep bedding, yet should the run be done the same or probably needs more dirt, stones or other basics for where the chicken spend the most of their day?

Deep litter: too good to be true?

Hello guys So I have been seeing videos and reading a lot on the deep litter method and it seems very convenient especially to someone who can use lot of compost for the plantation. I would appreciate your personal knowledge and experience with that, how to do it, what to do, and most...

It sounds more 'natural mechanism' to allow the poop to decompose into useful stuff, plus that would eliminate bad odor with less work (I wish I had the time to clean daily...). I did post there but got no feedback, I guess I will try again :fl PS, just checked your coop, really nice work and...

    Removing odors

Seems like water and poop are the ugly combination in all the searches I've done so far :sick:sick. Summer shouldn't be the biggest problem then... should work on keeping it dry during the rain, let's see :thumbsup

    Run over concrete

Thanks, done 👍 . It is in Lebanon, 1200 meter high mountain, dry Mediterranean climate, 2-month hot summers, mild cold winters (2-3 weeks of frost) with long springs and falls. Area is around 450 sq feet area for the run sunny and strong winds from time to time. (can't take a photo of it...

Hi everyone :) I'm still planning the coop and run construction. It is clear that run should be over soil area, however I have an already existing open vast area of concrete that is very convenient for a run next to the coop. This may sound very naive, but I thought I could use the expertise...

The raised ceiling spacing seems very effective for good ventilation (marked in red), do you close that (partially at least) during cold days? the flowing wind seems too close to the sleeping birds. PS: Nice decoration! Hope those butterflies are not chased 😆😆

I must say that I'm really surprised by how helpful you guys are here... Of all the research I have been doing so far (2 months now), this thread have changed how I thought things will do fine. Except for converting from/to the metric system, this is so helpful 😁😁 @DobieLover yes I am...

That was convincing! No mesh. But still more into the raised style to make use of the ground under..

Thank you! I'm more interested in the raised style so I can place movable trays under the floor for easy cleaning, please check my reply to @ValerieJ

Thanks Valerie and everyone, amazing community here! I will check the articles you suggested 👍 My idea so far is having the whole coop floor as a metal mesh under which the poop boards are placed. I would have access to the trays from the outside: withdraw them, scoop the poop with a putty...

Planning to raise chicken in this corner, so this community is just the perfect start. Currently researching the coop design. We have 🦊, 🐶, 🐱, and 🦅 in the area. Weather can get cold in the winter with subzero days and nights, particularly need a scheme for efficient poop cleaning and handling...
