This is Jerrie the Cornish Cross I never intended to keep her. At barely 1 week she was crushed under a waterer and broke her leg as a result I ended up taking her home from work. She was a runt that grew slowly. Post recovery she would often perch on my boot as I did my morning chicken...

Do these stunted silkies need supplemental heat?

Couldn't really get them to cooperate for a good picture but I'd say Creampuff is about 20%-10% smaller than my adult silkie hens.

Do these stunted silkies need supplemental heat?

Oh absolutely. I never really expected him to make it to his first birthday with how far behind he was. Tried giving him the best life I could regardless At least Creampuff is doing well, each day she seems to put on more weight. I should really try and get a picture of her with a regular-sized...

Do these stunted silkies need supplemental heat?

Big Cheese passed away at 5 months old last night. When I let out the young silkies yesterday morning I could tell it was his last day. Around 5pm he perked up a little and was walking around with the other silkies, the clarity before they pass away. Took some pictures and pet him for a little...

Do these stunted silkies need supplemental heat?

Ended up getting Rooster Booster Poultry Cell, mixed some into their food. 3mL in about 2-3 cups of feed. I think I'll probably try giving it via syringe. Probably 1mL since they're so small? Size comparison pic

Do these stunted silkies need supplemental heat?

Ah, thank you!! I'll definitely look into that. I'll see what higher protein feeds we have at work. I'm assuming the higher protein/supplements won't be an issue for the younger, non-runt Showgirl Silkie? All of his clutch mates got eaten by hawk so he stays glued to the hip of the runts

Do these stunted silkies need supplemental heat?

In early June I got a group of 20 silkie chicks. At about a week old they contracted a particularly aggressive strain of fowl pox that ended up having a 55% mortality rate. I still have 2 of the remaining 9 chicks. They appear to have stunted growth. (White female = Creampuff, buff male = Big...

Hen scalped by rooster, is it infected? (GRAPHIC)

Thanks for the second opinion! I was leaning towards not infected, but I wasn't completely sure. I don't have that much experience with infected wounds
