The antifungal was Nystatin. Her crop does not feel hard - rather, large and squishy at this point, but during this course of illness has also been empty. No foul odor. No probiotic was prescribed, though I have given her yogurt. (She's not eating it now, but did before.). Lower belly not...
I have a 4 year old hen, Billie, who about a month ago (?) had two issues that seemed to coincide. She laid a shell-less egg, something that is a recurrent problem (egg shells and oyster shells available) and she seemed to have sour crop. I took her to the vet to check her out. He said rather...
I love my girls more every day! This site has been very helpful, though unfortunately, I don't think to visit unless I have a problem! Glad to see everyone and thanks for the thread.
Hi all - I have a hen, 2 1/2 years old, who seems to be having some trouble eating. (She is my favorite, of course.). I noticed a few nights ago that her crop seemed empty. I then observed (next day) that she did not appear to be eating her regular feed, though she would eat it as a mash...
Thank you. I did speak with the manufacturer and they said once it settles out it will not return to its previous state. It probably wouldn't do any harm, but wouldn't do any good either.
Thank you for your response. I spoke with a vet specialist from the manufacturer. He explained that it is a suspension formula and once it has separated, it cannot effectively be brought back into solution. It likely wouldn't harm the chickens, but also wouldn't do what it's supposed to do...
Hi all,
My bottle of Elector PSP has separated. I spoke with the manufacturer who says that, legally, he has to advise against reconstituting it. He was unwilling to elaborate on the "legally" part of it. I'm wondering if anyone has had success with reconstituting it? Secondly, does anyone...
Thank you. I was pretty sure of my decision, but she made me positive this morning. It was very clear that she was done. And I've been through this with people, so I understand "done."
He is an avian vet - not exclusively, but yes. He has about 40 years of experience and has done many of these surgeries. I did find out that the ovaries would not come out. But, as it turns out, Sunshine is way past that as an option. We're just focused on keeping her as comfortable as...
Yes, he did talk about an ultrasound, but said you can get a good guess, but you don't REALLY know unless you open her up. Having said that, after reading what people had written, and knowing the recovery time, I was leaning towards no surgery - which ended up moot by this morning because it...
I can't thank you enough for taking the time to write out this whole very sad story. It definitely brings up more questions. The vet didn't say anything about the ovaries but, yes, I had the impression all reproductive organs would be removed. I really don't want to cause her unnecessary...
Would love some feedback/experience. I have a chicken that has not been doing well for some time (almost 4 weeks). I am very attached to her. Initially, the vet could find nothing wrong, except she was too thin. So we tried antibiotics and tube feeding. She improved, but never completely...
