    lockdown for guinea eggs?

Hi everyone. I read that guineas incubation period is 28 days but a lot of experienced breeders are saying they tend to hatch around 25 -26 days. Not sure when to set for lockdown based on the differing info? I'm on day 23 now and wondering if it would hurt to take out the turner today?

    Older guinea chicks with hatchlings?

Hi everyone. I had a hen raise some guineas who are now 12 weeks old. I have some more due in a week that I'd like to pop under the same hen (she's broody again and a super mum) but the older guineas are still hanging around, snuggling up with her at night. My worry is, are they likely to attack...

grafting chicks onto a broody first timer - what's normal?

Thanks for your help! Nothing was moving her from her spot but one of the chicks got really impatient and started annoying her. She was a bit like 'what the heck are you?' and pecked at it a couple of times and it squawked once quite loudly. I was ready to intervene but then it wriggled back...

grafting chicks onto a broody first timer - what's normal?

Hi guys. I have a young broody australorp x maran. She's never hatched chicks previously. She sat on infertile eggs for just over three weeks and last night (12hrs ago now) we placed three, two day old chicks under her. I removed the eggs I could but I didn't want to disturb her too much and she...

Anyone know if this chick will keep its colouring?

Hi everyone! I've had this chick hatch out of a batch of mixed breed eggs. I was wondering if it might be a splash but I didn't think splash generally hatch out looking like this? Thanks for any ideas

i know you never open the incubator during hatching BUT...

Thanks for all the advice. I had my son help me remove the naughty chick so we were in and out really fast, humidity only dropped six percent and went straight back up. We put it in the brooder with a soft blanket toy and it was fine. The others that had pipped all ended up hatching just fine...

i know you never open the incubator during hatching BUT...

Hi everyone. I have a batch of eggs at day 20. Four or five of the 20 have just started to pip. However one pipped early and was very fast to zip. Consequently its up and about and incredibly unhappy about being the only one. I know they tend to move around and knock other eggs but I've never...

    killer hen!

Thanks everyone. A couple more died overnight. We've ended up with five from eleven looking okay. We're counting any lives saved in this disaster as a win.

    killer hen!

I have a 11 month old wyandotte hen who took over my duck egg nest and I had heard hens will raise ducklings so I was happy to leave them under her. But then they started pipping and peeping and she started decimating them! Pecking at their shells and breaking them. There was shell and blood...
