This would mean somewhere along the line there is something bred in to either mom or dad that has tainted the genetics.
For comparison, here is a 2 day old pure buff Polish.
CC Polish are actually not a recognized standard, so there is no limitations to who can call their chicken a CC.
By definition, no, this is not a Candy Corn Polish - or even a Polish. It has puffy cheeks, and no where near the poof needed to be considered. This looks like a cuckoo x easter...
Very cute - but your boy there is not infact a candy corn polish. He appears to be some sort of buff/splash. A CC Polish is much darker, and results from a cross of a tolblunt and crele. Both look very similar, but aren't.
It looks like your darker chick will be a standard white/blue and your...
Possible, but unlikely as long as you are feeding them a crumble. If you are feeding pellets the possibility is much higher.
Quail chicks absolutely will choke on standard game bird crumble. For them, we used to grind the food up, but now we just use water and turn it to a mash. We haven't...
It certainly is! I'll tell you what, we have had a lot of mamas over the years, but this MJ is incredible. We have another broody who is kicking every chick she hatches out of the nest and this MJ is taking them all in.
Never had one before but she is a keeper.
We are having our annual broody mama hatch off. Over 50 eggs being sat on right now by 6 mamas all over the property 🤣 literally like a box of chocolates with crazy mixes of breeds.
And would you look at this! A speckled Sussex Roo x a red turken - hatched by a mottled Java 🤔
let's see...
After nearly 2 decades of poultry raising, I finally bit the bullet and ordered some ducklings. The idea of duck eggs is just too alluring.
Although I've researched everything under the sun, I do have one question for you quackers....
I've always kept a male - roosters, toms, cocks, etc -...
It is an unfortunate situation, yes. It was my father in law and he obviously felt terrible beyond belief, and you can only reach a certain level of disappointment.
Over the few days we collected around 110 eggs from various places and hiding spots, bought enough incubators and started...
3/15!!! Ok, I'm a month behind. I was reading your post and thinking - 2 week old chicks outside!! NO WAY! 🤣
Yes - 6 weeks is probably doing them more harm than good with the light.
Braggs has mother in it typically, which means it will only get better with age (it will say on the label if it has mother)
You can even take some of the vinegar with mother, add it to another bottle with some sugar water and make more vinegar.
You are safe to unplug the light and monitor their behavior. I'd say they are still a little young to be put outside with nighttime temps, assuming those temps are 40 to 50 right now, with no supplemental heat.
If you see them piling up with unsettled movement within the group they are too cold.
Shoot. Sorry. That is always hard.
We should probably do a bit it work here to make sure we don't lose anymore.
Have you raised chicks before? Would you be able to take a picture of your brooder and send it here?
There are just so many things it could be.
I've been away from here for awhile and can't remember how to tag folks. Any chance someone could tag wyorprock and eggsessive
