I did a zine fest last week and one of the zines I made was an extremely minimal guide to processing, thought y'all might like it.
I wasn't really sure what kind of reception to expect but people were pretty interested in it and overall quite positive! So I might make a more elaborate...
I got a cool little lens for my phone and some of the photos turned out great, here's a few of the best!
Done with a pixel 2xl and a Moment macro lens.

I've been making a short comic as a personal project, just illustrating some of the behaviours of my chickens. It's almost done so I'm gonna post it here one page at a time! Eventually I'll make a downloadable pdf of it too, once it's totally finished.
Can you guess the breeds? Only one is a mix.
This was just a fun experiment to see how many different ways I could come up with to render something, but I'm really happy with them, might do more!
Guess how old this chick is:
Here are a couple of his same age hatchmates.
Now they're all bantams, but still, wow. He's growing fine, healthy and active, just the feathers aren't keeping up at all! They get quality high protein feed. I've heard that barring is associated with slow...
My big man Honey has this abrasion/broken feathers on his thighs of all places.
I checked him over and saw no signs of parasites- I do get mites from time to time. Treated him anyways just in case.
He also has a small bald patch on his butt.
Keel is in great shape, no sores there.
None of...
My first serious broody hen hatched five chicks a month ago, here she is, very smug about it.
Bantam Cochin so she got all bantam eggs, every chick different.
A week later, the layer chicks I'd ordered at the feed store arrive. Since I'd ordered them, I've hatched chicks, hatched more...
I have a frazzle- hatched out of some purchased eggs, not my breeding, though I'd like if he's ever confident enough to make a pass at a hen to someday breed some frizzle chicks from him.
I was in doubt for a long time if he was indeed a frazzle, or just a manky, silkie feathered frizzle, but...
So my cockerel heavy silkiexpolish hatches are finally getting big enough to butcher. The oldest are about five months and some have turned into right jerks so I've been butchering them one by one. Today's unlucky lad was my favourite, but had come somehow to absolutely hate my mother, who never...
So I have twenty chicks from a mixed Polish/Silkie flock. The oldest dozen are six weeks now and looking pretty spiffy.
Seems like this is a semi-common flock combo, they're both docile crested breeds so it makes sense, they probably get along pretty well.
Now, I hatched these nuggets myself...
Well, the bag of chick crumble is getting low and my regular feed store was closed so I went around the corner to the other feed store this time. They had a 17% and a 23% chick starter. The crumble I've been using is a 20%, medicated with amprolium, it's been great but why not try something new...
So, after looking at the incubators available at my price point for the number of eggs I wanted to hatch, and the reviews about how unreliable the cheaper styro ones are, I decided to try my hand at making one myself. Here's what I did and how it went:
I started with your standard Styrofoam...
Got some poultry fencing so my six week old silkies can enjoy this hot weather properly. Mom went out with an old stump, showing them where all the grubs are.
Later she gave them lettuce?
Not my chickens any more. :p it's nice that they're bonding and they've doubled in size while eating...
It's my first hatch, and I diy'd an incubator, and all of my eggs are developing haha which is great but I'm just waiting for something to go horribly wrong lol. So far so good!
I have steady hands and a good phone camera and some lovely pale silkie eggs so I've gotten some great candling...
