Last year I had I think 4 but not all at once. So far this year I have had 9!!! One was basically winter still so she broke pretty quick. Another broke on their own a week or two ago. Now I have 7 that are broody. 5 of them are from last year's hatches so 9-12 mo!!! Funny 3 of them all...
Watched him back up to poop and nothing came out. Picked him up and just a bit of wet poo on its bum but not even much. That little dot is all I see for a vent. Is that normal???? Tried to check the others but hard to tell.
What do u do? I have read sugar on it??? Coconut oil. It is too...
Thanks. I have a brooder built into my coop that may work but my chicks still like to use it at night which is when I would need it for. Ugh. These darn broodys!!
There seems to be wet poop on the feathers when I check each time. I washed it off the first time and just did a warm bath the 2nd time (before this pic). The abdomen feels hard and full but also a bit squishy if that makes sense. I didn't notice it poop after I washed it off like chicks do...
Thanks. Ya this was just a little bit of soft poop so nothing like when my chicks had pasty butt. But I was thinking maybe it was stopping him from going? I will try the electrolytes. I don't have rooster booster I don't think but I have nutridrench.
So I have I believe 7 broodys. Long story but lent out my smaller crate I used as a broody breaker last year, bought a used one but it is too big for my coop and even though my run is secure I am not comfortable having them in there overnight. So looking to get a smaller crate for in the coop...
Ok so one of the ducklings, think the last one hatched in the first group so not Miracle, is sooo much smaller than the others and seems to be sitting more puffed up. I took it out to look it over and it had a bit of poop on its bum, but not dried like chick pasty butt, I washed it off anyways...
I had a duck egg that I thought was dead so long story short took the top of the shell off..... What I did (others helped me) was put coconut oil on the membrane, this was done around every 8 hrs to keep it moist), then cover the hole with plastic wrap. And bumped up the humidity a bit to help...
This last hatch I put eggs in 5 days after the first group, which you shouldn't do, but they went into lockdown with the others so they were day 13. I didn't raise humidity till first pip but that was day 19 for others and 14 for them. The 3 hatched with no issues yesterday. So 1 day early...
Tue May 7 was day 21 so while it was overdue it was only a day over which can happen especially if there is cool spots in the incubator. is the baby still alive today?
after a chick/duck hatches and they are still wet the humidity spikes, this is when I open mine to do what I have to. then there is no need to mist etc since it is already so high and once you open it and close it again it rises VERY quick because of the wet baby, like almost instantly. I...
Like @Auntiejessi3 said. day 1 is after 24 hrs in the incubator. I always think my aircells look WAY too small. the 1-2 days before hatch I have found is when they draw down and get bigger, mine rarely start that or barely start it before I candle on day 18 and put them in lockdown yet...
So you are day 18 today, Wed, then.. Thurs would be 19, Fri 20 Sat hatch day is 21. GL with your hatch! I can't wait to hear about it and see the babies.
Thanks. Think I may try after hubby is out of the shower so bathroom is warm and steamed up. His head feathers are slicked down and one spot on his back has membrane stuck. So doesn't need a full bath but spots.
