Hi! I have a problem that I have yet to have in my time of raising chickens.
I have a flock of 11. Two roosters. One rooster is about to turn 3 and he other is 9 months old (son to 3 year old rooster). My 3 year old rooster has been pretty good to the younger rooster. My younger rooster has...
That’s a nice idea too. I’m planting a mulberry tree above Clark (my rooster who just passed on) in the spring. He loved berries so I think it’ll be nice a remembrance and something for his flock friends to enjoy.
Sorry to hear about your hen.
Yes I think I’ll continue saving feathers.
I’m going to make an ornament with his photo on it. And framed photo with his feathers. I couldn’t do the foot print I was too chocked up. But it’s a nice idea for others.
That’s a nice idea, I may do an ink print. I’m burying him today and I live in the middle of nowhere so I don’t have one of those plaster things. I have a background in art so wonderful idea.
Hi all —
My favorite chicken passed away on Christmas. 🥺 I’m wanting to do something special with some of his feathers to have as a keepsake. What are some things you have done?
I’m also burying him and I’d like to have a nice marker or gravestone for him any ideas appreciated.
Thank you
Hi I have a 3 year old hen who I heard fall off a roosting bar last night. I went out and sat her on a roost by a fellow flock mate, it was too dark for her to probably get herself back.
I checked on her via camera this morning she was fine but then I saw her back on the floor of the coop...
Hi, I have a a few baby chickens that are mixed. They have a buff Orphington, mom and a barred rock dad, my question is do female chicks spar off or really or have chest to chest dominating behavior? I know this is common in male chicks, but I wasn’t sure if that’s the same with female chicks...
Thanks everyone :) he healed completely! Which is insane because it was super bad looking when he got bit!! I’ve been putting hen healer on it. Seems to help.
Hmm yeah I looked at it just now. It’s not red. But it is discolored. It’s yellow and maybe a little greenish blue on one spot. around the wound it is trying to close up on its own and the non injured skin is normal pink skin. I tried taking some photos but it’s hard to do while chicken is...
Okay. Thank you for the response. It happened on Thursday late afternoon.. I’ll give it a shot and inspect it. Unless you think that’s too long of a gap? It’s not healed yet. It’s just his neck which I always discard.
If something was bad I’d imagine it’d look yellow or orangey?
Hi this is a really unknown area for me. I have a pretty good size broiler that has a bite in its neck from a fox (I know because I saw it happen and scared him off —- praise to my trusty pet rooster for the alert!).
This broiler is amazing in size and is functioning well and normal seems...
alright. yeah he's not going for her neck/back, he's going for whatever part of her he can peck and grab her feathers.. i break it up every time it happens so i'm not sure what exactly it'd turn into if i didn't..
he just turned one in may, and i have him because he kinda got a ruff start in life and found a soft spot for him and he's very friendly to people and most of the hens usually.
I enjoy the roosters for the fact they protect the flock (my dominant rooster - fought a hawk off one of my hens --...
