Ah, thanks. Luckily, that’s not yet been an issue for us (this is the third or fourth year we’ve had chickens with the possibility of a roo to rehome or four). So glad there wasn’t something else I wasn’t aware of! Again, thank you!
Thanks for the tip! We’re definitely not “pros” by any means- these being our first bantams. Is there any particular reason why we wouldn‘t be able to keep them other than the possibility of too many Roos?
We recently crossed our barred rock (sire)/buff Brahma cross rooster with a golden cuckoo maran… the two chicks look so different. We suspect the black and white one will be a roo and the other a hen. What do y’all think? Here’s a pic of the chicks with grandma… they’re only 4 weeks old so we’re...
We ordered 4 chickens this year, all different and new to us breeds. I’m worried that the silver laced Wyandotte, the speckled Sussex, and the lavender Orpington are roos. However, I’m fairly new to the chickening world, so I’m hoping some of y’all can give me better news... thanks!!
Our RIR Silver Laced Polish cross (standing on the ground next to mom) looks like it’s going to have green legs.... is that even a possibility or do you think they’ll turn blue?
I have no clue if he’s double barred or not. I bought two barred rock chicks from Tractor Supply last year. They twere supposed to be pullets 🤷♀️. He’s gorgeous and does an amazing job caring for the hens.
I have 8 baby chicks that were sired (proper term?) by a Barred Rock or a Sliver Laced Polish. I’m fairly certain about the hens each chick came from. If y’all could help me identify a sire and/or gender I’d be very greatful! (I’ll post updated pics in about 6 weeks-if I remember, lol). They all...
Well looks like they’re all black, some with dots on their heads, one without (I think our silver laced polish was involved with that one). The ones that hatched from our RIR have blond-ish faces. Here’s broody and her chicks:
So, I was a bit off on my count. Woke up this morning and two eggs had pipped overnight. My broody is a first time mom and seemed a bit confused by the change in the eggs. Anyway, we moved and dusted her after we moved the eggs into a new location. Sadly, the hen was pretty stressed by the...
Awesome! Thanks! We dusted everyone today - even though they aren’t in direct contact... never can be too safe, right? I scrubbed and sprayed down the broody hotel and the main coop. I was planing on retreating the chickens in 3 days. If I can go a week between, I’d rather that- dusting the...
