My Australorp is having similar issues with a very long molt and the top of her where she is missing feathers is red! I thought from exposure to the sun .. but now I wonder. I keep her away from the roosters ; biy that's not it. No parasites. Just burned skin it seems(sure Vegas rather is rough...

I have been feeding my babies home feed on and off and 100 percent since July- my hens never skipped a day laying since. I make it to what I have and what I know they like; I don't have money for chicken feed I only have EBT and buy seeds from Sprouts and the rest is good left overs and when...
And the pomegranate I got from a wild street little bush -I only picked a quarter sized cute pomegranate this summer and it was drying all this time, used as decorative touch next to my poupory - I made a small hole in it the other day and the seeds came out dry and loose; I still use the shell...
And with almost no hassle (depends on what the Sprouts cashier renders as edible, taxable or your eligibility status rights) you can buy the seeds from sprouts with EBT.
I have also put pomegranate in there :)) just in case. My chickens would eat the flax mixed with other seeds I get from sprouts, I don't have any cash for actual chicken scratch feed, so I improvise - on electricity too, as you see
I'm trying to capture better image .I have three small clay pots with it in the front yard and it's very pretty and decorative too. Germinated in a nick of time in my compost soil
I have sprouts of flaxseed now :) is that what you mean ? I keep it on the front yard because if chickie as much as smells new sprouts or new growth to any plant..it's over ! 😂
