Just found a budgie lying on pavement by a dog walker, hurried over and picked him up
He's not so weak he can't fly but clearly not much energy
Offered water, doesn't seem fussed. I have him in an animal carrier. He is rather tame so clearly a lost pet. He's making lots of sad little chirps...
Right, firstly know this has nothing to do with me. I do not own chickens nor do I plan to.
In my town they have a bird aviary, and they have recently added chickens which does concern me. This aviary is large, goes up pretty high, it may be a few metres by a couple metres in floor space per...
So my duck, Dougie, has always had a larger than average abdomen but I've always put it down to being a mix of some heavy breeds, like Ayslebury.
I mentioned my concerns recently in regards to her abdomen in my thread but I only got a couple responses and today I'm a bit more concerned.
I had...
Random question but y'all know my biggest concern is my ducks health. I was given a bag of cooked peeled shrimp for my ducks, but they're 3 months out of date. They are frozen and have been the entire time-
Is that risky, or would it be safe to give them as a treat? I've heard a few sources say...
So as some may know I recently upgraded my ducks coop, using a playhouse/small shed, which has worked tremendously and saved me hundreds of pounds. While modifying this to make it suitable, I thought that the only issue with a low vent/window is the drafts that could come through, and or...
Just curious if my waterfowl pellet feed will be safe for wild ducklings to eat, its not layers or anything like that. Just food designed for ducks, and safe for geese etc.
The pellets are very small so I don't see a choke hazard, and they can be turned to mash with water.
Reason I'm asking...
I've tried dirt, I've tried wood shavings, I've tried straw.... but everything eventually turns to a muddy mucky mess! Plus the wasted money from replacing bedding so often. Even with the pen covered, it gets wet and muddy in no time.
I've heard of sand, gravel, patio slabs around the pond etc...
So,
I am finally, finally beginning to make plans for the future which entails moving out of my parents home, probably next year sometime.
So, some questions.
Firstly, I truly am flying the nest, the plan is to move a few hundred miles. It will be a car journey for the ducks, may take over 5...
Okay, please do correct me if I'm wrong, but muscovies are not a native species to the UK, right?
This is the strong impression I've gotten from Google.
So there are 4 muscovy drakes at my local lake, one of which especially concerns me. Is this angel wing?
They are quite friendly, they ate...
My dad ordered like, 2 tons of limestone the other day, it arrived and he realised its the wrong stuff for his job.
So anyway, now we have a literal ton of this limestone gravel stuff. I was wondering if this would be okay to use in the duck pen? Of course not for the floor, it's quite coarse...
Sprightly is struggling to lay an egg
I just saw her laying by the door, not a normal spot, puffed up and pumping her tail hard
Just gave her as much calcium as I can, she won't take anymore. She's struggling
Not sure if she'll pass it in a minute or if we'll need further advice
She hasn't...
@TudyBOT when I am eventually able to, I plan to add ducks to my small flock of two.
I'm curious, would muscovy be a good addition, and would they get on with my two white campbells?
As some of you may know, I rescued a bunny last year from a neglectful situation. She's been doing fantastic! Still not spayed yet. This will be booked in sometime in the next few months. Certainly done by her 2 year birthday.
But she's vaccinated and doing great!
She's been living in a divided...
I said I would, and so I shall, I have created a safe space for duck keepers!
I know how hard it can be, none of your non poultry friends would understand- the struggle of keeping ducks.
Ducks can be very rude and disrespectful creatures. Full of sass, full of wrath.
So welcome to the place...
I think Dougie is eggbound
ive been sitting with her about half an hour since noticing symptoms
I cant feel an egg, but im certain this is the cause
shes been pumping her tail up and down, her whole body constinantly moving like shes having contractions
shes whistling/whimpering very quietly...
Don't worry this has nothing to do with the conspiracy theories 😂
I've done a very silly thing and didn't order a new bag of feed enough in advance. And now it's been delayed a day and I ran out last night!
It was meant to be here this afternoon so for breakfast they had egg, oats and (a small...
(Ive made a fair few threads lately, apologies for that)
This is kind of a question, kind of an observation.
So I have a bunny pen right to my duck's pen.
Dougie doesn't care, or pay attention. But Sprightly likes to nap against the bars, right beside Bonnie, with her being sat on the other...
I'm just curious, if I were to die, would my girls be okay and live as normal, or would they grieve and actually... Notice. I'd just disappear, so would they grieve, or forget, or be confused?
I know that sounds weird but I'm just curious if they would realise and actually think about it, if...
I'm starting another thread because I'm lonely and bored lol, I thought this could be a fun chat thread.
Who is your absolute favourite animal that you have and why?
Can be anything from poultry, to swine, to household pets.
If you can, attach a photo of them, and tell us all about them 😁...
I don't know what's been up with my girlie, but Spright has seemed down. Her eyes lost their spark, she just seemed tired. She even wanted and sought attention which she doesn't do a lot these days. (You know how it is, busy birds, bugs to eat, mess to make, I try not to take it personal lol)...
