I think I’m giving up on trying hatch marans. It’s just too stressful! Is it this way for everyone? This was a mixed clutch of fertile eggs I popped under my broody.
First babies completely hatched without me ever seeing a pip, right on day 21 (Saturday- out before noon). No movement or...

We came out today on day 21 and 2 chicks have hatched!!! 3 eggs still under her and no pips. They are maran blends (not her eggs) and I’m curious if they just have different timing, can’t pip or aren’t hatching?
How long do we wait and should I try to help pip then like I would with an...
I feel the same! This is a first time hatching for the hen. Will they really kick a bad egg out? The nesting box is tight so other then kicking it to the floor I don’t know what she would do to it!
Hey group!
First time using a broody hen for incubating purchased fertilized eggs. She is doing a fantastic job, I actually have to gently get her off the nest daily or I don’t think she would pause to eat or drink.
I already pulled one egg out that had a little secretions and not great smell...
I posted at the beginning of the month about a 1yr old hen who was not walking well and sitting in the coup. We brought her inside and gave special food and made sure she was warm with electrolyte water. Did Epson salt soaks and no egg stuck.
After spoiling indoors for a few days she was...
She is up in her sling. Seems more willing to walk a bit today and her shuffle is a bit more of a limp…still can’t find anything wrong with either leg. She is panting today and most of her poops are pretty watery with green and white and clear.
Only odd thing I can find is a little flesh...
she is almost 1, still haven’t confirmed which eggs are hers…I have 6 hens and don’t get 6 eggs a day and I’m still trying to track down which lays which!
Thank you Friend’s. She is still sitting on the bottom of the coup. I will research slipped tendon- any helpful links?
Just back from the store with Epson salt. Will soak her and check her vent. I gave her electrolytes with some liquid vit D and crushed up cal-mag vitamins.
Don’t know what...
Hello Group – I went to check on my girls before roosting and found what I thought was a hen laying on the floor of our coop.
Once I tended to the rest of the girls I noticed that she had moved locations but there was no egg and she looked uncomfortable. I picked her up and was petting her and...
That gray one is a picture of the black one from the third picture in the light. It is very pretty, so much smaller than a Roosters, but what do you think?
Good morning friends! I have not posted in several months, after our incredibly stressful incubation and sad hatchling deaths. Out of the 32 eggs I hatched, eight survived. Out of these eight, I think almost all of them are roosters. We are of course devastated. Here are the pictures of the 4...
Great string of info! This morning my 4 weeks old decided the brooder was the most boring place ever- so much cheeping and flapping and pecking each other. They spent some time outdoors foe the first time this weekend as it finally was warm enough. Clods of dirt and grass clippings from mowing...
