Gosh the drama never seems to end in chicken keeping life 😅.
I have a hen who's been hanging out in the nesting boxes, looking rough with feathers.
Today I see this hanging from her vent. Looks like a huge tapeworm to me!
Please let me know your thoughts. We dewormed the flock in the winter.
Hi all,
Went to check on the chickens earlier and noticed my sapphire gem hopping on one foot and some bleeding. Didn't see anything on her trunk.
Her right foot has a tiny laceration on the top, her foot joint and pad look very swollen. For now, i have cleaned and gently wrapped her foot...
Hi all.
I had a young layer (about 9 month old) looking unwell today. Brought her in and hadn't seen her lay yet. Gave her one calcium tablet, and about 30 min later she layed a soft shell egg.
She perked up and was eating, but then I saw extra soft shell in the crate.
Is there anything...
Original thought 2 days ago was dry fowl pox with the eye and wattle spots. Now I'm thinking respiratory. Her other eye is watery. No coughing, sneezing or nasal discharge, but she's making a lot of noise breathing. No mouth lesions that i can see.
I'll attach photo and video from this...
Hello,
Noticed my wyandotte hunched down, and saw her eye closed.
Brought her in, and it looks like maybe some dry pox got on her eyelid and wattles.
I've treated her so far with opthalmic gel for the irritation, and terramycin eye ointment.
Any other suggestions?
Hi,
I recently went to order Baytril and the site has 'a newer and improved version' called respiratory 10%. I see it says not to use on food producing animals. Anyone know about this product? Site listed below.

Hello, these 2 were at the local feed store. Owner mentioned a bantam breed.
Trying to see if anyone can tell the breed, and if they're cockerels or pullets. I saw some chevron patterns, and they have feathered feet.
I thought maybe bantam brahma?
Thank you!
Hello all.
We've had a brutal heat wave in TX.. so many days in 100 degree weather.
Noticed one hen struggling. Have brought her inside, where she is eating and drinking, but diarrhea has a lot of green matter.
Looking for any words of wisdom, or if it's just the heart stress.
