Yeah, I am not really worried about it, and what I received have been nice layers. But it's kinda the principle, and they're (ideal) probably going to make a few more people confused if they keep sending birds that look nothing like the listing picture. I get that you can make different looking...
If they state they look exactly like production reds or hatchery Rhode Island Red in their breed description of sex links, then that’s just a gimmick to be able to offload more of their production reds etc. They literally have pictures of their take on red sex links, and they sent me couple...
The only issue I’ve run into with ideal is that I ordered red sex links, and they sent a mix of production reds and Rhode Island reds. All pullets though. But they definitely will fill at their discretion if they don’t have the stock.
I'm not sure I want to become a well known breeder nor do I care to show them, I just enjoy having them. But I think it would be nice to get decent quality Wyandottes back into the general public more than they are now. I've spent the last few years buying from reputable breeders, and some are...
These were juvenile birds, and with recent updates, all hackles have since grown in. However, once B started growing tail feathers, they turn toward the right, which I'm guessing is some sort of wry tail.
However, I do have another younger coming from a second batch. After some culling, can...
6 month ish update. The former B has some obvious issues, so have removed it. New A and B. B still seems to be slow growing in hackles. A has a lot of a cream or beigy type color to his feathers, and not silver. Is that something that should be avoided if breeding for quality, or moved away from?
Hello all, I'm new to learning genetics and breeding to the SoP. I have 3 cockerels that I am looking for advice on. Roughly 17 weeks. How do they look? Flaws? Are these good to breed with? Which one would be considered the most ideal? Thanks for any advice.
The question is mainly wanting clarification for this:
Vaccinate pullets between the ages of 4 weeks and 8 weeks before the start of egg production.
Vaccine must be administered at least four weeks prior to the onset of egg production.
Seems to be contradictory
My flock doesn’t have fowl pox. I know what it is, and all the details etc.
My question is about the vaccine and ages, the conflicting reports in the pamphlet of not vaccinating laying hens vs what age to actually vaccinate. Anyone?
There seems to be a lot of random information on the various vaccine pamphlets of available vaccines for fowl pox. I am looking to vaccinate my poultry yard for fowl pox, as mosquitos are abundant.
My question is this:
Some of the vaccines state to vaccinate chicks older than 8 weeks but less...
Some of the pullets have turned out pretty nice. Would it be okay to put another breeders rooster over them that doesn’t have this problem? Or just avoid it?
Was able to obtain over 50 of these birds throughout this year. A few of the cockerels have come out with gold leakage, in saddle as well as hackle; as attached. Does this mean that they carry gold somewhere in their line? And is this a sign to stay away from their lines if trying to get toward SoP?
They’re nice birds, but It really just depends on your goals and your preference. If you’re trying to get more “Wyandotte” SOP looking birds, then the hatchery ones you have won’t be it.
Here are some non hatchery at the same age of yours, and you can spot the differences.
