Dear Charlie is truly obsessed with my house quail. And yes, I'm sure he thinks he is guarding his own personal chicken nuggets. Lol. I also have a 6lb blind and deaf maltese/Yorkie, that the chicks like to curl up with because he really doesn't care (or perhaps doesn't know). And my 80lb husky...

Charlie takes his big brother duties seriously. He supervises the baby buttons all through incubation and hatch.

    Button Quail Lockdown

I candle for all normal checks while hatching, but do water candling as a final check when eggs are way past due. Of course it's only for a few brief seconds and never if there is a crack or pip in the egg. Have never had any water enter an egg while doing it.

    Button Quail Lockdown

There is nothing better in this world than baby button quail. But hatching is so sensitive to Temps. Just slightly off and everything is delayed. I never give up on any egg until at least day 22. And I water candle every one before I throw them out. My very first hatch I ended up taking 3 eggs...

    Confused about quail

So, I started out with my button quails in pairs, except for one trio for the first year. They seemed happy, but I found the poor girls were always bald from the boys clinging on while mating. That said, they loved each other dearly and I even let a couple hatch and raise their own young. But it...

What color are my button quail?

Blue faced. I'd guess male. Are their any red feathers at vent?

Button quail colors! What are these chicks?

A bit late to the party but I love a good button guessing game! It looks like the two light ones have a silver tinge and stripes? If so, I'd say silver red breasted or silver pearl. I see a red breasted chick in the center, the one with black stripes of yellow. The dark one is likely a blue...

    Friendliest button quail

I have some that are more interactive than others. They will eat from my hand but resist being picked up. When I do get them up they are happy with belly rubs and petting. But some hate every second of it. Lol

What color are my button quail?

I have never seen them this dark, but my guess would be blue faced.

    Button Quail Identification

Yes, I know Blue is for certain, but I really didn't know about Sis because I can never find online pics of the females. I have to basically go with what lever people tell me because I have never seen live buttons other than my own. Lol. I still can't figure out all the versions of silvers I...

    Button Quail Identification

My favorite girl looks like yours! This is sissy and Blue, apparently darths.. Sissy has white wing feathers on both wings and blue has only one wing to a lesser degree. First pics are sissy and blue, and next are their son and daughter, Thursday and Friday. Friday has more white than her mom of...

    Broody signs in quail/button quail?

I honestly never thought it would happen. And now I am sitting watching proof that it can :)
