I mixed an entire bottle of red pepper flakes in their normal feed. I give them the sunflower seeds for them to pick up twice a day. I just throw them on the ground for them to eat :)
Update! 2 girls laid this morning. Last week I added black oil sunflower seeds and red pepper flakes to their diet and switched back to their old feed. Seems it worked!
Idk what’s going on! This is the first winter I didn’t supplement light. Today I am trying crushed red pepper and black oil sunflower seeds. I also switched back to their old layer feed now that it’s back in stock.
Unfortunately still no eggs from my older girls or the new girls. There’s no way they’re still molting so close to June, right? I’m in Georgia so we’ve had longer hours in the day since March.
I use a 5 gallon bucket for them to eat out of and they’re definitely eating all! I have to add more food every 2-3 days usually. I have 10 hens and 1 rooster.
It is a 16% feed. I recently switched to a different brand over the winter because their usual brand was always out of stock.
Sure! It’s black fly larvae and it comes in a box. https://a.co/d/acobCU3
I just add it to their pellets and mix it all together. I notice a huge difference in egg quality with it.
Layer feed with added protein and they get scraps from us. I also get up a good bit of weeds/grass for them daily. The coop is pretty secured so I don’t think anything is stealing them! Every morning when they laid, I knew when they did because they’d make this distinct call and I haven’t heard...
I am in Georgia and let my girls take a break for the winter and didn’t supplement any light for eggs. It’s now May and they still haven’t laid any eggs. I got them in December 2022 and they started laying spring of 2023. Is it possible they’re done laying? They aren’t free range (too many...
Update.. after her losing some feathers around her vent, I sadly discovered maggots all in her vent. I was able to flush them out and let her sit in soapy water. Crossing fingers that was the only time I’d have to do that. I’m not sure how it even happened to her.
She acts like she wants to eat and even tries but won’t. I tried giving her some greens. She’s mostly just laying down now with her eyes closed. Poop seems to be white with some neon green.
I have gotten her to take water and electrolytes through a syringe but she won’t drink on her own. I haven’t been able to get her to eat but will try the scrambled eggs and mush pellets!
She’s an active layer and from what I can tell hasn’t laid since this started. She’s standing the whole time and her tail is up. I was able to get her into an old dog kennel and she pooped. It does not look normal to me.
