    Droopy neck Legbar

Thank you for the response. I ordered some vitamins and Ivermectin, took about a week and a half for post to get it to me. During that time the birds all bounced back on their own… the only thing I changed was feeding dry instead of fermented. I now suspect that there was likely mold...

    Droopy neck Legbar

I ordered hatching eggs this year and I hatched 6 Legbar chickens. 3 males , 3 females. Recently something has been going on with them. They seem to be lethargic and have a drooping necks. One was also twitching and couldn’t keep still. I have kept chickens on my property for 4 years and never...

Lilac and Dilute/Dilute Blue gosling down

Yea that’s what I was afraid of. I imagine the lilac will be just a lighter buff type of down. I did find a photo of a blue Sebastopol female in downy phase, so maybe I’ll be able to tell the regular blues.

Lilac and Dilute/Dilute Blue gosling down

Ah, thank you! Those are good photos. Im still curious about when they were in the downy phase after just hatching.

Lilac and Dilute/Dilute Blue gosling down

So every year I like to hatch a few eggs from crosses just to see the colors that come out. This year I have a Buff Toulouse gander that has been mating an Embden goose. I ran the calculator to see what could be the possible results and I noticed dilute, dilute blue, and lilac were the outcomes...

    Turkey laying mystery

I have been thinking they have been hiding them but I scoured their pen and they cannot venture off anywhere…I’m thinking I just needed to do what you’re doing and offer the calcium. I’ll start there. These are slightly older hens than my other groups so perhaps that will be a factor also. Thank...

    Turkey laying mystery

Okay, thank you for your input. This makes sense. I will start by providing the calcium free choice, if that doesn’t help I will search for a gamebird layer formula. I may have to switch feeds altogether as the mill I buy from currently only offers 28% protein or 22% protein turkey food.

    Turkey laying mystery

They’re all different varieties. I have a pair that is painted, the trio is semi pencilled calico, and the Tom with four hens are Narragansett/Golden Narragansett. Could the 22% be negatively impacting the egg production of the Narragansetts while having no effect on the other two groups? As...

    Turkey laying mystery

So this is my first experience with turkey breeding season. I have three separate breeding groups of turkeys, a pair, a trio, and a Tom with four hens. The group consisting of the Tom and four hens are not laying any eggs at all and are the most mature of the three groups I have. I’m getting...

    Bumble in between toes?

Thank you, no bluKote on hand… will have to get some at some point. I cleaned it and put some neosporin on it for now

    Bumble in between toes?

I am thinking one of my turkeys has a bumble sore in between toes. I’ve not yet had a bird with bumble foot… I have read soaking with epsom salt and removing the plug and then wrapping the foot sometimes helps… I don’t think I can wrap this as it’s in between the toes. Anyone more experienced...

Hatching goslings, Kangaroo-Care, for when you need every chick to survive due to rare-breed, or difficult to hatch breeds and crosses.

I have no allergies to fowl dander that I’m aware of but tiny eyelash size hairs that poke and itch would probably be a deal breaker for me. I have seen how they go everywhere when I’m cleaning out incubators and usually I find them a nuisance. Have to wear a mask and all that or I’ll be...

Hatching goslings, Kangaroo-Care, for when you need every chick to survive due to rare-breed, or difficult to hatch breeds and crosses.

Interesting. I think I would get itchy from all the little hairs they shed in the downy phase.

How much should I sell poults for

Depends on what variety they are and your local market. I just sold a pair of 12 week old poults in southern Indiana for $60 each. Try like $30-$40 and if no takers after a week come down $10

    Questions about noise level/quiet breeds?

Geese really aren’t so bad, the sound of geese happily honking and chattering to each other is far better than hearing noise from neighbors or nearby roadways. The rare occasion geese go berserk with the noise is usually an indicator that you should check in and make sure there’s not a problem...

    Painted Turkeys from porters

Noted about crossing with painted. I’ll message you about where he got them from. I don’t know if they’re “officially” being offered from where he acquired them. 🤫
