Can dominent hen be pecked on or molt at 8 months old?

So the most dominent hen will allow the others to peck her feathers out? Just wanting to learn more. Also, what's wrong with giving them scraps from the garden/kitchen? I'm giving them only vegetables scraps (nothing like bread or non-nutricious stuff). They are all laying very frequently.

Can dominent hen be pecked on or molt at 8 months old?

Hello, I am a new chicken owner and I have 5 hens. They are about 8-8.5 months old, and my 2 Black Copper Marans are at the top of the pecking order. I noticed the other day that they both have small bald spots on their backs under their wings. It's not noticeable unless you examine them, but...

Chicken on bottom of pecking order question

Thanks for your help. Fingers crossed that her beak miraculously won't get worse and will somehow heal. The green is not pus, it seems to be the color of her skin right there. Hoping to see improvement next few days.

THis morning her red spot has some green. Read it can be bruising (or some weird disease). She will continue to be separated.

Chicken on bottom of pecking order question

The toe doesn't appear swollen and she is not limping. It is the right outer-most toe on her right foot, and she will stand on only her left foot from time to time, but she will usually use both feet. Pic of toe and beak included here. Toenail appears completely off compared to her other nails...

Chicken on bottom of pecking order question

It was difficult to get a good pic but it was red and maybe pus-like yesterday when i noticed it for first time. Today it was more brown color. I kept her separated in the same run as the others. She also managed to somehow pull a toenail out and break a piece of her beak off at some point (I...

Chicken on bottom of pecking order question

I have an Americana/Easter egger (named Dottie) who is on the bottom of the pecking order. I noticed yesterday she was letting her "buddy" peck close to her earlobe, and I figured the buddy was just getting food or something caught on her feather. Later I checked on Dottie and saw she had a red...

Open-mouth-breathing. Why do they want to go in warmer coop?

I've noticed one of my marans (9 weeks old) tends to breath with her mouth open when in her coop (not all the time, just sometimes). I assume she's just overheating even though she does it at night when temps are in 60s. Today temps are warmer than it has been, but only about high 70s and...

Does difference in breed color affect personality?

You're right, those examples are hybrids so it's not the same as comparing the Orpington examples. Thanks for catching that!

Does difference in breed color affect personality?

Hi - I tried to do a websearch on this but couldn't find an answer. Does the variation in chicken color for each breed affect their personalities? For example, Buff Orpington is usually very docile. Will a Lavender Orpington also usually be very docile? (I know personalities within a breed will...
