I really like the big 5lb pickle jars. The 1/2 gallon canning jars just don't regulate the humidity enough. The 1/2 gallon jars work great for port B after lockdown.

How many quail can comfortably fit in a community cage? Currently I have 9 in each community cage while I figure out who the roosters are.

How may quail can fit comfortably in cheach level?

This is what I ended up going with. I found it on Craigslist. We are finishing Rat proofing the walk in part of the chicken coop. So the quail will be safe.

Here they are in the brooder. 16 healthy chicks. 4 eggs are still in the incubator.

First 6/20 chicks have hatched. 1 more is currently hatching as I type.

When I get home from work. I know chicks will be hatched/hatching. I am so excited.

Update: Day 20 I have 4 to 5 external pips. At 68.3% humidity on the Grovee and 64% on the NR 360.

I will wait and see if the humidity drops naturally through the night otherwise I will fix it in the morning.

Day 19 update: I took the turner out yesterday. 20/21 eggs made it to lockdown. Right now the humidity is at 66%. Is that too high? I pulled out both shoe strings. To try to lower humidity. There are no pips yet so we will see. Normally without the shoestring method I have chicks hatch on day 18...

And what is SSC? Is that Silver Schofield Collection?
