I did check the one rooster I thought it was and he does have feathered legs, so I am pretty sure it is him. His mom is a Speckled Sussex, so that would make perfect sense. It will be really interesting if this chick ends up being speckled. If they are feathered like a SS does that mean that the...
So my chicken groups have separate dedicated areas and coops. My LO hens are flighty and will fly out, but no one comes into their space, much less their coop to lay an egg.
With that said, I no longer have Speckled Sussex hens, but I have one or two roosters from my sweet Minnie who fell to...
Wow. That is a lot of information. My head is spinning trying to understand. But it oddly makes sense. There is so much to learn. I think when I have studied a bit more and have practiced with what I am doing now, I will have a better idea about what to ask.
Thank you so much for taking the...
I have previously hatched chicks that are grown and a couple of the boys have a carnation comb, a walnut comb, and a rose comb. I do have a hen and rooster with a rose comb, but neither of them were the parent of the chicks I hatched previously, lol. It is amazing to me that it is possible for...
The end goal is to have blue chicks of the combined breeds and see if I like the color outcome, breed size, body type, personality, and hardiness. I'm looking for something specific that is pleasing to me, but I won't know if I like it until I see them grown. I hadn't considered a multi-colored...
Thank you. I was looking up other posts on the same question and I was able to glean more information. Ultimately I will need to hatch a few at minimum to see what I come up with...As far as others doing the same cross...sure...I just am not seeing it anywhere for sale and the individual...
Thank you to everyone who has responded. I really appreciate it. I'm sorry I wasn't more forthcoming about the breeds, but I was hoping to keep that under wrap at the moment. I apologize if that presented an issue for anyone, but I certainly have appreciated the time people have taken to explain...
I am actually breeding my lavender orpingtons with another breed for a separate project and have learned a lot, but goodness it is amazing how much there is to learn and how much time is spent on said projects, lol. I'm sure I am juggling more than I should. I love the LO body and feathering...
I'm too old and professional to waste my time punking people, tbf. I thought the two would be a good hybrid for me and I am going for the color and the specific cross. The chicken calculator said the chicks would be blue, so I am trying to educate myself.
Neither of the parents are an Ameraucana or Black Copper Marans. I was using those breeds hypothetically. I have been out all day and haven't caught up on the response from everyone. Let me read up and circle back, :)
Yes, both parents are purebreeds. One is a splash pattern and one is a silver penciled pattern. I didn't think the breed itself mattered since it was the color that is the only difference. Am I wrong?
Hmmm...now I am totally confused. I haven't studied this piece yet. I know the splash pattern was probably created over time with a few different patterns? Is it possible that it is a side effect of the splash gene pool?
I am totally hearing what you are saying, but I paid specifically for these two breeds from known breeders, so I am confused. Are you saying that an Ameraucana and BCM sold an individual could actually somewhere in their gene pool have had something else in their mix, but doesn't present itself...
