9 week old buff Brahma: pullet or Cockerel?

Oh gosh I hope so! Last year, two of our four chicks ended up being cockerels. This year, this is the only one of the three chicks we brought home that was giving me doubt!

Pullets or Cockerels? (Buff Brahma, Delaware, BLRW)

Hi again! I'm back with some photo updates! They are now about 6 weeks old. Still look like pullets? The Wyandotte (first one) is the only one with the slightest hint of a waddle poking through, it it's still tiny.

    Salmon favorelle chick

If you're salmon faverolle has black feathers coming in, it's a male. Females have white and brown feathering, with maybe a few speckles of black.

    Any hope for a pullet?

I agree, they both look like cockerels. We raised two faverolle chicks last spring. One was a pullet, the other was a cockerel. The boy had lots of black feathering while the girl had white/brown.

Pullets or Cockerels? (Buff Brahma, Delaware, BLRW)

Hello! I know it's likely still too early, but figured I'd put up some progression photos over the next few weeks that may be able to help others. Any early insight on whether these chicks are male or female? They are about 4.5 weeks old. We've never had these breeds before so I'm unsure of...

Help sexing a Lavender Orpington chick

Hi! We had a lavender orpington chick last year, which unfortunately turned out to be a Cockerel and we had to rehome. He was very friendly with us, but around 4/5 weeks old, he started to bully the other chicks. Below is a photo of him when he was 4 days old, followed by a photo when he was...

Hi! This is what our Buff Brahma looks like (approx 3 weeks). Definitely has feathers on her feet! I've also I closed a photo of our Easter egger hen from last year when she was about a week old. Doesn't have as many spots as yours, but maybe?

    Hen with hurt leg

Hello! I have a 7 month old buff orpington with a hurt leg. She has been limping on it for about a month now and doesn't appear to be making any recovery progress. I did do my own examination and she is able to bend/extend it without any noticeable pain, so I assume it isn't broken. No...

Could this 3.5 week Lavender Orp be a he?

Yep. He looks just like my cockerel of the same age. I wish I can keep him because he's so beautiful. He's going to a good home tomorrow.

    Chick's unusual STINK!!

Hello, all! I have a 6 week old salmon faverolle female chick that STINKS! And I'm not talking a normal animal stink. This one has a very sour smell. She is in good health--eats and drinks well, very active, clean vent, normal crop, clean mouth, etc. She's been stinky since her feathers started...

    Hen aspirated 💊

I'm so sorry for the loss of your girl and what you are going through. I think most of us here who have had chickens die wonder if we did something to cause it, or didn't do something to help it. You obviously love your chickens, and your heart is definitely in the right place. Everyone here is...

Has anyone purchased chicks from Hilltop Farms in California? *Do not buy from Hilltop Farms! Negative experiences are in the thread!!!*

I'm sorry you lost so many chicks :( I personally have not gotten birds from Hilltop Farms but I have gotten birds from Dare 2 Dream Farms in Lompoc. I'm up north in the Bay Area and have only bought a few older pullets at a time (12-16 weeks old) on a couple of occasions. Every bird we've...

    Aggressive chick=aggressive rooster?

We currently have four 4.5/5 week old chicks in the brooder. One is a lavender orpington, and we are 90% sure it's a rooster based on comb and waddle development. We cannot keep roosters in our area, so the plan was to rehome him in a few weeks once we are sure it's a rooster. But to add to the...

    Hi from California!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group, but we've had chickens for 6 years! We raised our first chicks nearly 5 years ago when I was pregnant with our daughter. One of original chicks is still alive and thriving! Since then, we have purchased started pullets to add to our flock. We've decided our 5...

    Lavender Orpington: is there hope??

Hi! I'm new to the community, although I've been a chicken owner for 6 years. Happy to be here 😊 I know it's waaaay to early to know for sure, but has anyone had a lavender Orpington around 3 weeks old that looked like this and it ended up being female? The comb is making me worried, and the...
