I wonder, if she used her charm and cute little wagging duck tail to charm food out of someone in the village, and was a little too heavy to fly back? Kind of like my visiting Muscovie, Elvis Duck, who now visits every few days to partake of some grains.
Little Toot is still going strong. The Egg Thief found it's sibling, dead, so something definitely happened, to drive the parents away. They may have been the original goose family, and were just old and more easily driven off.
The leg issue is not keeping it from eating and swimming. It...
It has a wonky leg, but eats well, and has the will to live, so I am going to take it to the vet and see, meanwhile, I am massaging the joint and trying to help train the foot to go flat. Egg thief could not watch the others peck it to death.
We have multiple goose families that raise up their goslings in our pond. This little, was abandoned, and one of the other groups were trying to kill it. The Egg Thief brought it to me.
Do you know who? It would definitely be worth the effort to find out, it sounds like someone has some mental issues.
Possibly the same as the vandal or the evil-unruly spawn of the vandal? This is why I just don't like a lot of people. :-(
I am glad she is home safe and hope that her car is...
Our peach, apple and almond trees are loaded with fruit, or were before the severe thunderstorms and tornado that went through Wednesday night. I have been afraid to go out and look. We were lucky, the tornado did not actually touch down on our property, but it got dicey for a bit. Chicken...
We grow a variety of fresh herbs that we dry and use throughout the year. We are going to plant garlic this fall. We intended to plant for this year, but with all the other chicken and turkey projects going, we just ran out of time.
It loved going to the green grocers while we were in Whitby. It was so nice to be able to walk to the green grocer, butcher or fishmonger and the bakery every day or every other day and get just what you need at really great prices. We flash freeze a lot of what we grow in vacuum sealed bags...
I don't think our dominant, Blue, mates nearly as much as #3 Spud. He is always at it. He is quite the impressive dancer though. (more Travolta than Baryshnikov, but it seems to be effective.) 😝
That is why I am working with 5 males. They have their moments, and I am constantly giving thought to whether or not we need to reduce the number of males or increase the number of females. I can see them maturing and Blue has done an amazing job at giving them their own jobs in protecting...
With a pop out box, the wind can hit more surface area causing it to lose heat faster, where as if the box is on the ground, there is insulation from the earth. It is kind of the same concept that leads to the warning signs that bridges may freeze before the road.
She is such a great mum, it would be almost cruel to fight against her natural drive, since you do have room for a few more and they make such beautiful peeps! :)
