Duck acting strange. Fluffed up, agitated and large poops.

Hey! So a bit of the back story. One of my 1 year old Welsh Harlequin Drakes died 1.5 weeks ago leaving behind his mate. He was a little slow and stumbly a bit one day and then the next morning I found him dead in the coop. I had him and his mate separated for breeding so when I found him...

    Drake sudden death

Ya so I have her in a separate run and coop by herself. It's just chicken wire though so they can still touch a bit but they don't often bother. When I let her out my drake did mount her. I hope that wasn't enough to spread it if she's got a virus. She hung around the pool all day while the...

    Drake sudden death

Hey. Sadly I found my Welsh Harlequin drake dead in the coop this morning. He wasn't attacked. He was in a slumped over seated position. I noticed he was a bit off yesterday - Slow to get out of the coop but then seemed fine just a bit moody which I figured may be from the fact that he was...

When will my ducks start laying? 7 months

Yes, I know. I have rehomed a few drakes and brought on more females. Was just the luck of the hatch.

Comment by 'Waddlewoods' in article 'Assisting Call Duck Hatches'

Hatched many ducks in the past but first time with a call duck. He has internally pipped just now (been checking quite frequently and I knew he was close). Do they not have 24hrs of air in the air sac? The lady I got the eggs from (8 originally but only one was fertile) said she only assists if...

    Shipped eggs predicament.

I've ordered some rather pricey shipped duck eggs from the other side of the country. They were shipped on Monday, tracking said Tuesday but then never showed. I received a notify this morning (Wednesday) that they were out for delivery but at 6pm got a notification that it was delayed due to...

Who's the daddy? Welsh x Runner genetic Question

Ok interesting! My blue bibbed is sure getting things done! LOL. All the remaining 7 I believe to be blue but they all have bibs. Some slightly darker and some slightly lighter. There is one Welsh cross which I was certain had to be the offspring of one of my Ancona coloured drakes as he...

Who's the daddy? Welsh x Runner genetic Question

The pictures have the clarification on them but you need to click on them to see it. The ones that say Welsh Cross are the ones that hatched from the Welsh eggs. The ones that say remaining 7 are the ones I figure are pure runner (black hen x blue bibbed drake). The one with the eye stripes...

Who's the daddy? Welsh x Runner genetic Question

Hey! Just hatched my first round of Welsh x Runners and wondering who the daddy is. Lol. The first 3 ducklings we'll speak about all hatched from a Welsh egg so the mama is my silver phase Welsh Harlequin. They are obviously not pure Welsh so who do you figure the daddy is out of these...

Egg getting black spot in lockdown

Hey! 14 duck eggs in lockdown. One of the eggs had a small airsac but the rest are normal. The one with a small airsac is now developing a black spot. I candled all the eggs prior to lockdown and did see some movement in the fluid of this egg although no pressing/poking on the membrane like...

    Genetics - Runner x Welsh

Ok... So if I was to breed 2 Welsh x runner crosses (neither expressing Harlequin) would the offspring express Harlequin?

    Genetics - Runner x Welsh

Thanks for the reply! Ok awesome! So it would be pretty safe to say that any Harlequin duckling hatched from an egg from my Welsh is pure Welsh? I only had the breeds separated for just under 3 weeks when I loaded the incubator so I'm unsure if they will all be mixed or some pure. I guess...

    Genetics - Runner x Welsh

Me again, back with more genetic questions. I have an incubator full of eggs with a high chance of some runner x Welsh crosses. Curious what I can expect from the crosses. Here's what I have... Silver Phase Welsh Drake over black runner hen & silver runner hen Silver phase Welsh duck under...

Do Saxony eggs for in the Nurture Right 360 turner?

Thank you for the reply! That doesn't really help me. It only tells you the weight. 😕 I think I'm going to cancel the Saxony eggs for this year. 😔

Drake all of a sudden attacking us

He's a runner with colouring like an Ancona. He's beautiful and out absolute fav drake but he is a real terror at the moment. Hahaha He nips at you and it leaves bruises..m right now not such a big issue being winter and we have thick clothes on but in the summer he'll really do some damage...

Do Saxony eggs for in the Nurture Right 360 turner?

Wondering if anyone has hatched Saxony eggs in the Nurture Right 360? I ordered some Saxony eggs along with some fancy runners not even thinking that they may not fit. 🙈 I've hatched plenty of runners and Welsh with the turner but nothing bigger. If they don't fit in the turner I'm not...
