First go at a hatch-a-long! We lost our awesome Blue Copper Marans roo, Robert Snagclaw, so I’m trying to hatch as many eggs as I can while I still can. These eggs will be set Tuesday 5/21 and due to hatch 6/11. I have another incubator coming, so I’ll likely start another dozen when it gets...
Constructed a very rudimentary temporary incubator until the new one gets here (and ordered a second additional one as a backup for the future).
Temp is currently maintaining right at 100°, haven’t gotten the humidity dialed in but not as concerned about that.
The eggs spent probably 4-5 hours...
I just have a cheapy Chinese incubator that’s giving out on day 7 - my husband thinks faulty wiring. Amazon is sending a replacement but it won’t be here for four days.
Is there anything I can do for these eggs? I’d be happy to let a hen sit on them but don’t have any broodies.
Newbie at this.
I have 12 eggs in the incubator right now on day 6. The other 8 have a lot of clear, obvious veins. I’m not really sure what I’m looking at with these ones though. Sorry for the low quality pics.
Yes, the one I have does have an automatic turner! All things considered I think it’s sufficient for what I need.
Good to know! I will do that instead. I would definitely expect a decrease after the time, but would also like to maximize odds!
I did!
It was a little more difficult to tell because I had some dark green eggs in there, but four of the five were pretty obviously no good and I had suspicions about the 5th.
We opened them up and two looked as though they never started developing, the other three stopped around day 5/6.
We lost our rooster unexpectedly the day before our first batch of incubator eggs were due to hatch.
We ended up with 5 out of 10 healthy little chicks! Of the remaining 5, 2 never seemed to start developing, 2 stopped around day 4-5, and 1 made it maybe a little further.
I wasn’t planning...
Awesome thank you, I did move them out!
Any thoughts on the remaining 5?
Thought I saw some wiggling, but that could also be wishful thinking. I don’t hear any cheeping from them right now. Just planning on giving them more time and seeing what happens 🤷🏽♀️
day 22, 4 hatched yesterday and 1 sometime overnight.
The chicks that hatched yesterday are completely dry - and getting quite rambunctious. There are 5 eggs left that don’t appear to have pipped yet.
Would it be wrong to quickly remove the empty shells and day old chicks?
UPDATE and question!
The big whole pip was the first to hatch 🥹 two others have hatched as well.
However - the first to pip (it’s been approx. 20-22 hours) hasn’t made a ton of progress. It’s definitely still moving in there. I went into this with no intention to assist, and I’d still prefer...
Wow, I really appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge! Thank you! I’m sure I’ll be referring back to this a lot in the coming days and months.
Just had the first one hatch from a Brahma egg, the chick is indeed black with a lot of cream colored markings.
