Hello! Haven’t been around here in awhile. I have a broody hen, and I’m taking this as a sign to get more chickens. In other words, I would like her to have chicks.
She has been on these eggs since sometime after Thursday. At least the past 14 hours, until I came out to her spot being taken to...
I don’t know if this has to do with her crop or not. She has been in the portable lawn run and I’m worried she’s been eating too much grass and not enough rocks.
I’m getting mixed information online. Some say holly is poisonous, but this says it’s not:https://www.hobbyfarms.com/are-christmas-plants-toxic-to-chickens/
The ASPCA also doesn’t mention it, but they do mention horses.
Need to get my chickens in before roost, and I know how they feel about these berries. But I do not know if they are bad for them or not. Thanks in advance!
Update: she has been in the garage resting, and I think she has made good progress! Still giving us eggs too. I think her only barrier now is that her muscles aren’t built up enough anymore for walking, but we built her a mini chicken run just for her outside so she has reason to move around more.
Noises aren’t unusual but I think she doesn’t have her full range of sight due to the inflammation. I’ve seen pain in a chicken before so I know what it looks and abounds like. How in the world do I wash her eye out? She’s going to hate that.
Not the season. There are still bees around but not many. We went down to 39f last night. Also her eye is looking better today, although my mom said she saw one of the roosters pecking at one of the hens. Have to assume it’s Goat, he was all by himself on the roost last night while all our other...
Not sure what to make of this. Noticed it since she’s been making a bunch of odd noises. Both eyes colors are normal, it’s just her left eye looks puffy and different compared to her right.
I live on a side street off a main route in a busy town, but I’m surrounded by woods. So we get wildlife visitors often. Today, we had a bobcat. Actually this was like 30 minutes ago. I heard a one of my pullets make a noise as if it were being swooped up by a hawk, so I ran out to my back deck...
I want this too! I have a 6 month old hen who is completely healthy, but she is unable to walk. I need to build her a chicken wheel sling, but I am still very lost. She seems lonely too and I’m not sure what to do. We do supervised visits with the other members of the flock every day or so but...
Another photo. Comb is much redder than it was last
Yeah I’ve been watching to see how often they breed them. We need roosters where we are because of the amount of predators. There was a bobcat the other day my dad luckily scared away. But if they get too much definitely going to separate
Thoughts? Moments after this she tipped her bed over then spooked herself. Started panting but is better now. I have a fan blowing. She hasn’t sat down yet. She hasn’t laid an egg in a bit, should I go to the store and get some gloves and lube to be safe? She just took a crap, although not a...
I feel really annoyed at myself that I haven’t done this as soon as I wanted to, but today I will be putting her in the garage and giving her pain meds. Also have begun drilling to add more ventilation.
