Hi, already have a chicken suffering from water belly now i’m afraid i’m dealing with another issue on another hen.
This is how her butt looks right now, jsut got home and it’s yellow. I’m busy at the moment cleaning off her poop and inspecting her body. Could anything help me indicate what this...
Hi all, was suspecting that my RIR had water belly as she has the typical signs of it. Her urates have developed a yellow tint. She has a very squishy bottom that slowly enlarged this month, loss of feathers, however laboured breathing indicates it is squishing up against her organs? she has...
Haha sorry for the confusion, i would explain it a bit more clearly as, her belly isn’t hugeee, but a stage where seems it would be reasonable to drain it, and she isn’t lethargic at the moment. Because i just discovered the water belly developing bigger, so essentially i’m asking is it...
Hi, planning to attempt to drain my chicken with water belly this week and have some questions about the process.
Is there a time that is ‘too early’ to drain a chicken? I know to not drain more than 30mL every 2-3months each drainage, but her water belly is not too the point where is causing...
I think it did end up being water belly. Felt her lower area and is as squishy as the top, checked her this morning and she clearly is having some moments of laboured breathing. I’m trying to get my hands of a syringe big enough for drainage and see what happens! She’s also been the smallest one...
Hi all! My chickens have been doing good so far expect for today, when this 1.5yr Rhode Island hen has a suspicious growth in the right side of her bottom, i’ve felt it and it is really squishy. I can only think the possibility is water belly developing. Is this right or is there another...
She acts normal still, she eats well (pellets and mix scratch) and drinks water. It’s been a few hot days in Australia, but she still behaves normal. She been laying everyday and as well as today. Lately her treats are the norm, bread, rice, vegetables and fruit (apples, grapes, bread, lettuce)...
All became best friends after your guys advice and now hang out together and sleep together, little bossing around food but i know that’s normal. Thanks 😄
Hi all, My chicky Bonnie has had some concerning things happen recently, she although seems fine but i know chickens can hide things well.
About 2 weeks ago i was hanging out with all the chickens, and in my peripheral i saw Bonnie throw up/something goopy and mucus but red come out of her...
Hi all,
few weeks ago i got two hens to join my lonely chicken. For the past weeks they have been seperate with the see no touch method and all was well. I’m at a point where i wanna start introducing them slowly. I have been supervising them during their contacted introductions. They are...
Hi all,
Just got two beautiful 1.5y old Rhode Island’s from a good friend of mine.
They have been integrated alongside my one Australop with the see no touch method.
At week 2/3 now of introducing them to a new place and in the first week they both laid daily, however they have not laid in the...
Unfortunately not, she got worse/lethargic as time went on so i chose to euthanise her so she passes peacefully. I suspected internal laying, ovarian cancer/the possibilities people suggested to me. But it was something definitely wrong in her laying tract.
Hi, BYC. Last week i unfortunately had to euthanise my chicken, Tammie. My animals are like my children to me hehe, and it was my first animal loss so it was hard, but i knew her condition was worsening and unfortunately too far gone for me to resolve for her. So i came to the conclusion of...
Thanks guys, i just have another question.
I now have the possibility of taking in my friends 3 Rhode Island’s. They are mature, around 2 years. I’m planning to expand my chicken space and add in a better coop if so.
What do you think/need i do anything different with these chickens?
Hi, my ISA Brown has just passed yesterday :(So i am looking for a new chicken to accompany my lonely Australop now. I have an offer from a person for an Australop that is point of lay of 24weeks/5months. My hen right now is around 2-3 years. Is this a good idea to incorporate such a young...
She did recover from the prolapse. Unfortunately she is being put to sleep right now at the vet. She has not been well since. The prolapse is probably connected to an underlying issue within her reproductive tract and unfortunately she has gotten worse since, so i think this was best for her.
So Sorry you had to go through with that :hugs I do love what the vet has said. I think the price may be similar here, but yes i worry i cannot find a place. Im here because so desperate for answers because vets are closed today so i have to ring up places tomorrow. Thankyou🤍
