    The Sugar Cookie Project

Day 5 in the incubator and they're developing well! Seems like 8 or 9 are viable so far. Took a picture of one being candled and edited it to make the embryo more visible.

Ok I just candled the dozen eggs and we have development! There's a few I'm iffy about and one that developed a crack that I just sealed with wax. I think the crack developed due to humidity.

Put the eggs in the incubator! Some worry me because they still looked kinda scrambled from shipment. Hopefully they'll correct themselves over the next few days. I'll be candling them again Monday to check their development. But for now pray for their development! One step closer to a new breed!

Got my eggs today! I'm super excited about them! I've got them resting and I candled them for cracks. I'll put them in the incubator tomorrow night or the day after tomorrow.

Hopefully with the eggs coming soon my dad will finally get the incentive to finish the coop. We're also going to be bringing down our old dog kennel soon from my grandmother's house. My aunt and uncle also offered their old kennel as my uncle isn't able to hunt anymore and hasn't had any dogs...

    The Sugar Cookie Project

I finally bit the bullet and purchased some CCL hatching eggs because no one near me was selling them this year. Hopefully they'll get here sometime in the next month. The Breeder I purchased them from has the orders going out in June-July but I asked and she said it should come before July. So...

    The Sugar Cookie Project

Good news! I found a CCL breeder that has hatching eggs available in may. I'll be ordering some. Also the 3 girls seem to be laying slightly bigger eggs than before! If they get a bit bigger I may try hatching some out. I'll tell you what, those three are houdini's. I'm not sure how they keep...

    Hoovers hatchery CCL's wanted!

I wanted hoovers hatchery so I have a higher chance of getting more birds like the one I have. I've gotta get some before my oldest rooster passes so I don't have to completely start over from scratch. I don't want to take any chances with genetic "leftovers" from the hatchery crossing the...

Searching for: Crested Cream Legbars near Nashville

I found a seller I believe in Kentucky. It's not the exact same lineage but hopefully it'll do for my breeding project.

Searching for: Crested Cream Legbars near Nashville

Alright thanks for trying 😊 I've searched around some more and found someone I may buy from. It's not hoovers hatchery variety but it'll do.

Did some math with the shed coop sketch. The runs are each 96sqft and 10-12 birds could use that. I decided on 10 per run&coop. Each coop would have a pair of 5ft long perches and 6 nestboxes (I can always add more if needed). So that would be 40 birds maybe more or less depending on bird size.

Searching for: Crested Cream Legbars near Nashville

Ran across this post searching for some CCL's too! Are your adults from tractorsupply/hoovers hatchery? I'm willing to buy some hatching eggs as I need them from hoovers hatchery genetics specifically so I don't mess up my genetic line. If you don't mind I'd also love to see some pictures of...

    Hoovers hatchery CCL's wanted!

To put this short I need either chicks or hatching eggs of specifically Hoovers Hatchery genetics. They aren't selling any online and my local shops haven't yet had any. My rooster I need to breed them to is going out of his prime and I'm afraid I'll lose him within the next few years. Please...

    The Sugar Cookie Project

I suppose I could weigh the eggs and take the heaviest for the incubator. I'll need to pull Bruce out of their pen and swap in cookie so they'll all be bred by Sampson.

    The Sugar Cookie Project

Do you think any chicks produced by them crossed back to Sampson would have a better chance at producing bigger offspring themselves as well as bigger eggs? I assume with them coming from somewhat smaller birds and smaller eggs will make them smaller too even if they're Sampson's offspring.

January 29th was the first one laid by them. They've stayed pretty consistent.

    The Sugar Cookie Project

Would I have too much difficulty hatching any of the new girls eggs because they're so much smaller than their similar sized mothers eggs? 55g vs 30g eggs If so is it worth it to even bother breeding them back to Sampson or any other roosters? I do plan on moving cookie in with them after I...
