Hey there, super new to goats and farm animals in general!
This is my ff doe, Alice, who we paired with a Buck in Feb when she was 9 months old.
However there was an incident back at the end of December where a buck got loose and spent some time in the doeling pen. We hadn't thought he managed...
Ok Great, I'll hang on to it for a few more weeks, see if anything rooish develops.
And thank you! Was hoping for Hulsey colors with chiller temperaments. This may be the only Roo I end up keeping, he's just so pretty.
Thanks for the help guys 🙏
After reviewing, it's seems as if I made a mistake and posted the same bird twice. Sorry about the confusion! So 2 and 6 are the same, just in different lighting. I took more pics of him/her, if y'all could take another look?
Also just to double check with you guys, 5 is definitely a pullet, and...
I believe most (other than 4, who I think is a hen) are roos. Unsure of 6 also. What do y'all think? Range from 13-14 weeks old, and a mix of EE's, Pumpkin Hulsey, Leghorns.
Thank you! I got some close ups a few of the ones that seem to be in question; in your pics that you marked that the Silkie Mix and EE's are all hens. Up close, what do you think?
Thank you so much for the response. When I was attempting to splint the leg, the chick suddenly lurched and the entire leg shifted and turned from up in the hip area. The entire leg, from the hip, was dangling sideways, and it looked as if it had been broken or dislocated in multiple spots. It...
Just found my 4 week old chick limping, it's leg stuck out at a sharp angle, unable to use it. Seems to be the hock joint, which is swollen. No idea if it's broken, slipped a joint or dislocated. Vets near me won't see a farm animal.
I have Popsicle sticks and medical tape, maybe I can splint...
Unfortunately, the hen that laid them had been bred before coming to me, and she hatched these two. The farm they came from has dozens of breeds and isn't sure which bred her, and they don't seem particularly interested in giving me a list. I saw Buff Orpington, Copper Maran, EE's, and mixes of...
These two are 12 weeks and from the same clutch. Thinking the black one is a hen and the other one is a Roo. They're half Australorp, wondering if anyone can tell what the other half might be?
Hey there! So these guys just turned 8 weeks so I know it's still too early to know for sure. But wanted to see if any of y'all have any educated guesses? Honestly, I can't tell until they're about fully grown, but do any look particularly "roo"ish or "hen"ish?
Also, they're almost all barnyard...
Could it possibly be a silkie bantam mix, with the extra toe but without the feathering down the legs? Never had a silkie so not sure what they're supposed to look like as chicks, but this one does seem a tiny bit fluffier?
(Assuming at this point the breeder just didn't list all the varieties...
So the rooter is a Pumpkin Hulsey. The hen possibilities are:
Ayam Cemani, Rhode Island Reds, Gold Phoenix, Crevacouer, Spangled Russian Orloff, all varieties of Jersey Giants and Brahmas.
Chick came from a medium-sized light-tan egg. Its pale yellow with some dark spots, though it'll be clearer...
It was ultimately culled. Shame that there were plenty of views, but no other advice, guidance, or support.
Thanks, Debbie, for chiming in. Unfortunately, she wouldn't drink or eat. I don't think I could have gotten any liquid into her without a syringe.
Felt so helpless, and she seemed to be...
