Picked fresh eggs (<1 day old) out of the coop today and this little egg looks to have some cracking on the surface. Cracks don't go all the way through and the shell itself feels sturdy.
Wondering if there is a disease or potential malnutrition happening with this particular hen that she might...
Glad I found this thread. Building a new coop and the 1x1 came to mind as a good idea, but as woodlandwoman mentions, a raccoon or weasel can easily put their hands through. I hadn't thought of that! Here in SoCal, a rattler or gopher snake can get through, too.
So now I'm considering just...
I acquired a new young buck and he promptly got into a tiff with my older gentleman. Looks like little Blackie sustained a shoulder injury (two bite scabs underneath his fur) and it's swollen and tender.
No signs of puss or infection (no smell), and beneath the skin it feels like a semi-soft...
Looks like a buck to me, too, but i prefer to sex my rabbits at about 3 months instead of 8 weeks. By then, if there are balls, they'll be dropped and there's not much question as to gender!
Btw, rabbit droppings make excellent garden fertilizer. I spread them across my garden, in my mulch beds, and over my entire pasture field to help reinstate the good microorganisms into our "dead", over-compacted dirt.
I keep rabbits in open colony and the only thing to do about the droppings are to rake them up and shovel them away. The floor of my run is dirt, so the job is pretty easy with a leaf rake and a stall shovel. On grass or less flat flooring, it would be difficult to clean the droppings up. I keep...
Merry Christmas, y'all. Interesting thread here. I love how versatile pallets can be for building, not to mention cheap. From small to large projects, a great resource to build on the farmstead quickly and (fairly) easily.
My favorite thing about pallet building (other than cost effectiveness)...
Hello! I'm Jessi, here in southern Kern County (California). I have a few chickens of various breeds and backgrounds, a few ducks, more rabbits (mostly Blue Americans), a handful of miniature pigs, two Dexter cows. I have a very small but only pitifully productive garden, and butcher all the...
