    Is Spectracide Triazicide safe

Well… I love guineas, but we are not supposed to even have chickens so I’m sneaking them in and I bet my Karen of a neighbor will notice Guineas 🤦🏻‍♀️😆🤦🏻‍♀️

    Is Spectracide Triazicide safe

Sadly, we have some allergies that prevent lavender oil use (as well as a few others), and checking myself and the kid over multiple times a day for ticks isn’t really a long term plan (& all it takes is to miss one to have life long side effects) so I want to kill what’s there, not just have...

    Is Spectracide Triazicide safe

Hi y’all, I need to deal with a sudden tick invasion in my yard and want to use Spectracide Triazicide because I know it works. I found 3 ticks on my clothing yesterday just by walking in the short weed/grassy area in my yard where I’m building my coop & run. A few notes; my chicks are still...

    Toys and enrichment?

Well, my chicks are only 8 weeks, but they have liked mirrors and some parrot toys that I hang from the brooder cover. The toys I have are sort of chandler style where it has large beads and silver bells and the other one has colored blocks of wood and a bell at the bottom. They love to peck and...

    Chick won’t STOP CHIRPING!!

I’m glad it was just the temp/comfort issue. It’s great to be loved deeply and needed by my chicks, but it was exhausting to have to hear it non stop for a month!

    Chick won’t STOP CHIRPING!!

I did post an update in here so you can go back and see that. But in the end, it was time that did it. It took weeks (3 or 4?) for Anne to calm down. Now she is as quiet and mellow as the rest of them and it is all happy quiet bird noises. But I thought I would lose my ever loving mind for...

7 weeks old- roo? Hen? I’m stumped!

Yes… that pesky waiting! 😆 Compared to my others, (s)he looks more roo- but compared to all the online photos of males at this age (7+ weeks) everything looks much smaller and less red (& still no waddles!), so I’m waffling every day between “roo” & “pullet”. 🤦🏻‍♀️

7 weeks old- roo? Hen? I’m stumped!

Thanks for the photos! Most of my girls have tiny combs (even the ones without much of a tail yet) but Marilla is stumping me. Tail was slow to come in, but is growing now. She’s the same age as other hens I have, but smaller. And the comb is more visable but not large and without waddles makes...

7 weeks old- roo? Hen? I’m stumped!

I’m stumped on the gender of the Orpington chick on the left; Marilla. I’ve had friends and family who have had chickens disagree on if she’s a Roo or hen and she is my fave, so the suspense is killing me. When I compare her comb to the other girls I have, her comb seems a bit bigger and gently...

    Chick won’t STOP CHIRPING!!

UPDATE: since a lot of other posts about this never followed up or updated, I want to give a follow up. Around week 3 Anne started to calm down a bit. She was still loud, she still went for hours a day, but it started to lessen a bit. By week 4-5 she was still doing it, but not in a “I need...

    Chick won’t STOP CHIRPING!!

Not that I can upload easily here. But it’s just an endless peeping.

    Chick won’t STOP CHIRPING!!

lol…. Yeah…. No. She’s still loud. She’s LESS loud, less often, but boy howdy does she know how to make noise. She just wants me, wants me around and wants me to take her out of the brooder and love on her (though half the time she still chirps as I’m holding her). I have added a ton of...

Chicks scream for wet food- do I give in?

I just don’t want to teach them to scream for stuff and not stop because they know it will work (like a flock of toddler tantrums 😆). But maybe it’s not worth the fight and should just feed them wet on demand 🤦🏻‍♀️😆

Chicks scream for wet food- do I give in?

Well, I can’t move them out yet- I’m building the coop from scratch and it’s not ready (& it’s too cold out here and they don’t have much in the way of feathers yet. Plus, i LOVE having them in the house- (minus the screaming). This is my first batch of chicks ever and I’m so in love that I even...

Chicks scream for wet food- do I give in?

So, I think I have created little Diva Monsters 😬. My apx 3 weeks old (give or take a few days) chicks scream at me for wet food and I’m torn between giving in and also making them learn that screaming for wet food (when they have endless supplies of dry food) won’t work. It’s the SAME STUFF...

    Chick won’t STOP CHIRPING!!

I’ll have to update as she ages (if we don’t send her back!). I love her and want to keep her, but the entire point of not having a rooster is to have a quiet flock and she’s a strobe light of sound. I’ve been told that she might grow and settle into herself and quiet down. I’ve been doing a LOT...

    Chick won’t STOP CHIRPING!!

My kiddo was the opposite and never wanted to be held close until she was older 🤦🏻‍♀️ Bjorn, baby wraps, ergo carriers- she screamed at them all. I’ve tried the “comfort” thing for her, but it doesn’t seem to be that… she sometimes quiets down, but most of the time she still peeps loudly the...

    Chick won’t STOP CHIRPING!!

No, it’s an insistent, loud, “hey! Hey hey!” Sort of call. I tried everything, I even dosed with invermectin to see if it was a digestive upset- but it turns out she’s just a loud mouth. I gave them a new brooder set up (wire grid panels that make a 36”x30” cube and placed it on a table so she...

    Normal or frizzle?

So I have a collection of Orpington chicks in the “2 week to a smidge younger” age range, (2 lavenders, 3 Mauves and a blue) and I’ve noticed on some of them the wing weathers seem to… lift/fluff in a non smooth way. This is my first ever flock and while I’m familiar with chickens in general...

    Chick won’t STOP CHIRPING!!

I’m not sure about her, but the others have no fears or worries; they were hatched by a friend and we got them the next day and have hand raised them. They come running up to see us when we walk by and fight to be the first to hop on our hands when we put ours in there. They don’t almost ever...
