Thought I would check to see if anyone lives in WNC that raises quail. I am not sure on the breed I want yet but would like to buy from someone locally if possible.
Congrats on your new mealworms. You might want to warm up their bin a little bit? Maybe put them in the warmest part of your house? I got my first beetle yesterday it was very cool. A lot smaller then what I had imagined lol. Bin is full of pupae now so let the reproducing begin!
Ok if they don't start laying again I will switch to that. I can't figure out what else could be going on. Especially the welsh should be laying... has me worried. Only thing I can think of is the feed I'm giving them is scratch and wild bird seed mix and I need to switch to pellets?
if mine dont start laying or if i dont find where they are hiding their eggs by the time i use up the rest of their food i am changing feed. do they sell the all flock at TSC i wonder.
your birds are so cute i love the colors. do you trim their wings to keep them from flying?
maybe im feeding my ducks wrong and they dont want to lay? what do yall feed your scovies? could a field mouse eat a duck egg? what do yall do to get rid of the field mice?
striving for qualities in your birds that would make them more self-sustainable. broodiness and foraging would be at the top of the list as well as disease resistant.
and reproducing without intervention.. no.. selective breeding we would still have to do as flock managers but the birds would brood and raise their own young without incubators and modern technology. basically less human intervention.
