Nice Brooder! I am so jealous, I use a large Rubbermaid box with some wire cloth connected to a wooden frame on top. Thanks for posting the pics and measurements.
Do you have a website where we can look at the book? I am from Hurlock, now I live in Howard Co. Md. This looks interesting. I have some other books that were given to me by family members about Dorchester Co.
Is the book hard cover or paperback?
Thanks
Amy
Does anyone know of a video out there on how to butcher a turkey? I have butchered turkeys before and it is not easy, so I was looking for something that I could watch that may make the job a little less of a struggle.
There is a video on You Tube called "Survival Skills with Russ - How to...
I have had Marek's go through my flock a couple of years ago. I only knew that it was because one of the hens that was affected was one of my daughter's favorites. It had trouble walking, flying and getting up on the the perch. We took the hen to our 4H vet and she had to euthanize her...
Do you have a rooster? I have had a couple that have been too rough on the hens and maybe sprained their ankle.
Also, has your flock been vacinated for Marek's?
Just wanted to let everyone know about our positive experiences with Meyer. We order some of my daughter's 4H birds from them and they are nice quality. We especially love the Buckeye breed that we have had a rough time finding at other hatcheries. With a couple of their shipments we have had...
Oh Wow! Frosty! Now you have literally scared the bejeebers out of me. I am not a fan of any rodent, rats are the worst of the bunch. Can't imagine them staring at me in the dark. It is too cold here in Maryland to sit out there with a gun although I have thought about setting some traps...
I was just reading another thread on BYC and it was all about the various predators in our coops. Anyway, it sounds like it may be a rat. Apparently, they dig in and take the eggs, whole, and roll them out.
My turkeys aren't even supposed to be around right now, they did not make weight...
I have a coop that sits on the ground but has fencing attached to the bottom as flooring. I then put a 2" layer of pine shavings on top of the fencing, and that is where I keep my 4 turkeys. One of the hens just started laying eggs about 3 weeks ago.
Shortly after I noticed holes around the...
I don't have any buff but I do have black and one lavender silkies. All were hatched in the beginning of October 2011. My daughter shows silkies in 4H and the silkies that I have would be disqualified for skin color on one of them (the lavender has pink skin instead of black).
We are in MD.
We have a black lab that I take to the vet about once per month with skin and ear infections. I have had his skin scraped a few times. He is taking Benadryl now, he is 100 pounds so the vet told me to give him 1 mg per pound. He takes 4 (25 mg) Benedryl in the morning and 4 at night. It...
Hi,
Just checking in from Howard County, Maryland. We are in Glenwood. We have 40 chickens and 4 turkeys. My daughter is a 4H'er and will raise 2 market pigs this year. We also have broiler chickens in the spring and summer.
I did get an email from the "Fine Feathered Friends" club (4H) in...
