How many of you chicken ladies out there deworm your chickens every year?
I am thinking I need to deworm mine now. Did it at least two years ago. I found on of my hens collapsed in the small coop tonight. She is still alive, but obviously not well. I worry I should have dewormed them all...
This year, staring around the end of March, out of my 10 hens I was getting 6-7 eggs a day sometimes 8-9. Since the end of April, I am lucky to get maybe 3, and some of the eggs have really thin shells. It’s weird. I have not changed their feed, but have even added some corn/oat/barley/split pea...
That is a great idea!! I will work on doing that tomorrow and then when I know all the eggs are hatched that are going to hatch, I will move her to the new brooding pen
I have a sitting hen who should be hatching out chicks within this next week. My husband and I built a smaller chicken coop and run for setting chickens or even more quarantine use in the future. My question is could I move this hen to this new coop now before her chicks hatch out? She is...
I made a stupid mistake and now think my mistake has negatively affected my flock.
I was told that adding ACV to my chickens water is beneficial to their digestive health. I make my own ACV and so I was excited to add some to their water every day. I didn’t know that you should NOT add ACV to...
This hen has rallied back! She is acting normal, but she still has this tan discharge on the sides of her beak and she seems to have it in her mouth. Could this be a crop issue? Her breath doesn’t really smell, but it doesn’t look normal.
Ok … so this hen is back out with the ladies, but today I noticed that she has some tan colored buildup around her beak. That does sour crop look like? Could she has something going on in her throat or her crop?
Surprisingly, she was still alive in the morning … even after I was so worried about the way she sounded last night. We could hear the sounds she was making in the cage in the laundry room next to us. Today, dhe has not eaten any of the scrambled eggs I had given her. I have electrolyte water...
This is the fish biotic. I heard about it here over a decade ago. I break the capsule open and mix the powder with several drops of coconut oil. I form the mixture into two pills and keep them in the freezer. It has been a good source of antibiotic for my chickens.
Her eyes are normal. Nothing coming from them. She has a slight amount of white buildup on either side of her beak. No new birds. She doesn’t have a bad small. But she really sounds like she is suffering. It sounds like a belabored moan 😣
This is obviously respiratory … any suggestions? I do NOT have a vet near me. This hen in about 2 years old. I have quarantined her from the rest of the flock. I have given her calcium, a 1/2 a capsule of fish biotic. She has electrolyte water and I scrambled her some egg. She has been...
UPDATE:
The hen has been in a cage all day; sheltered from the sun and wind. I have given her scrambled egg twice today and she has freely eaten the egg both times. Tonight, I think I am going to put her back in the coop at dark and then see how she does tomorrow back with the flock. 🙏🏻
She ate scrambled egg this morning as well as some laying crumbs. She was much more attentive and vocal today when I soaked her. I did give her calcium this morning. I have not seen an egg yet. I will keep her in the cage throughout the day today, and then put her back in the coop with the flock...
This morning she was still alive and standing a bit taller, but no egg. I prepared another epsom salt soak and soaked her for 10 minutes while I massaged her abdomen. I gave her a TUMS during the soak and a little water to help with the dissolving process. After the soak, I blow dried her...
I have soaked her in warm water and epsom salts twice today. She ate some egg yoke and drank a little water. She has been given a calcium D3 tablet and a dose of fishbot (antibiotic). I have her in a dog crate wrapped in cardboard to keep it dark and shielded from the wind on our covered porch...
