I have 6 young Barred Plymouth Rock cockerels for sale for $8.00 each. Hatched between April 27th and May 6th of 2012. Will sell two or more at a time. Their father won Best Variety at a show in East Tennessee in the Spring.

That is a VERY valid point. My brooders are in basement and that's all we do down there so there's not much chance of the lamp getting knocked down, but I'm adding wire asap!

All of the above advice is great. One thing I would add, no matter what container you decide to use for your brooder, get a metal lamp with a clamp that you can keep away from plastic or cardboard. Hot plastic will give off toxic fumes, and of course cardboard is combustible.

That's too bad. I live outside of Tellico Plains and our shipped-in birds always arrive in the time the hatchery says they will. PO calls asap, and we go immediately to pick-up. I open box in parking lot to give the chicks water, and maybe this is just luck but we haven't had a casualty...

Didn't order from Ideal this year, but did for Spring 2011 and was surprised that 5 of the barred rocks turned out to be a "mystery" breed. The good folks at Ideal sent out replacements asap. This was an order of 40 chicks in total, and all but one survived. Good PR as far as I'm concerned...
