Just received an order from Murray McMurray to supplement our flock, especially our Araucanas (looking to get a few blue egg layers) and adding a few other desired breeds (Buff Orp, White Giant, Delaware and Barred Rock). As always, very healthy chicks!
Food grade diatomaceous earth (shell flour) is a great wormer and is handy for sprinkling in the coop to keep it dry and bug-free. Add a bit to their food from time to time. Make sure the DE is food grade though and not the stuff used in pool filters.
Poor thing. I consider heating lamps to be more of a yellow light than red, even though the bulb itself is red. Try adding a regular red buld to light the area. Or you'll probably just be forced to separate it. Good luck!
The only way I know to train chickens to consider a coop home is to close them in it for 2-3 days. Feed and water them inside the coop during this period (although I wouldn't do that afterwards- attracts predators). After that they will always return before dark.
We let our broodies stay in the main coop. When she hatches, move her to the floor in the corner of the coop so you can put out feed and water. She'll protect them and won't leave them once hatched.
I would advise marking the eggs you want her to hatch as chickens are notorious for...
Anybody in the Washington, PA area with Araucana/Americana/Easter Egger eggs (no mix breed please) available for sale?
Please contact me. I have a broody and would love to hatch about half dozen. Let me know price and whether we can meet somewhere to exchange.

Thanks! I would highly recommend pallet usage for those with limited building skills (such as myself). The Sikkens stain is very expensive (~$50 gallon?) but it lasts a long time. Thanks for the comments!
I'd add that you should consider restricting their treats as well (pasta, veggies and scratch). It could be more of a function of the birds not getting enough protein in their diet. Layers need 16-18% protein and scratch only offers half that percentage while the other treats offer none.
Good...
A window certainly is a good suggestion and a future possibility. It certainly would be easy enough to frame out given the structure. I'm not worried too much about the light and breeze as the slats do have small gaps to allow both.
I will probably add a window to the front for the afternoon...
