PLEASE help! Chicken (and other animal) Ordinances - Residential Districts vs Non Residential Distri

You all ROCK! Thank you so much! House hunting have been SO stressful because I refuse to give up my chickens for a house (how's that for crazy chicken lady haha) and most of the houses in our price range are within city limits or have HOAs that don't allow them :-( Guess we will be house...

    Broody Hen Help Please!

I had a hen go broody a few days ago, I don't have the option to do the "broody hen cage" that so many have talked about. Anything else I could try? Has anyone just let their hen go through this cycle with no eggs to sit on? I can't hatch any chicks and she has no eggs under her. Thanks so...

Comment by 'cblakley0531' in article 'Lacey Washington Chicken Ordinance'

Thank you for posting this! I was just checking the ordinances on Thurston County (we are looking at house in Rochester) and it says chickens are PROHIBITED - can anyone confirm this for me or have anymore recent info than from 2012? It will BREAK my heart if I can't bring my chickens with me!

    There's NOTHING better!

I have 4 girls that I raised from chicks this year. I have them in a mobile coop that we move at least once a week, if not more, to keep the ground under them fresh. Due to where we live, we are unable to let them free range (which we found we couldn't after webcam already gotten them because...

    YIKES! EGG EATERS?! :-(

I have one hen that lays right on the spot before 9am in the nest boxes. I have 2 nesting boxes for 5 hens. I checked the boxes and there doesn't seem to be pests, the other is laying in there daily. I don't believe she's a low hen. I've been spending a lot of time watching them and the...

    YIKES! EGG EATERS?! :-(

Thank you all so much for your input! That particular hen that laid the egg in the run is, in fact, no longer laying in the nesting boxes :-( She was giving me the biggest eggs too! I love the idea of possibly keeping her locked in the coop for the first part of the day but unfortunately it's...

    YIKES! EGG EATERS?! :-(

Hey All! Tonight as I was cleaning out my mobile coop this evening around 8pm my time, I had the chickens locked out in the run. As I was cleaning it out, I noticed one of my chickens that I thought was a rooster, start acting "funny". Before I knew it, an egg hit the ground, broke open and it...

Started offering oyster shell, now what? :)

Yikes you guys! So tonight I went to check for eggs and my Australorp that's been laying the most perfect beautiful eggs, laid a really odd one tonight. It was her 7th egg. It's pretty misshaped.....I'm worried she's not getting the calcium she's needing. I have it offered free choice and I need...

Ameraucana - show me your pics!

What a beautiful EE!! Thank you so much for responding. I noticed today that she was picking at the other chickens a little more. Ever since they were tiny, my EE and Silver Laced Wyandotte love to bump chests and fly up at each other lol. It's quite the show :-)

Ameraucana - show me your pics!

awwwww so frustrating huh?! I do have a question for you (and anyone else that would like to pop in and answer lol), are Easter Eggers a little more of a "hyper" breed? Like mentioned above, mine is thought to be a hen based on the pictures but my EE is always trying to spar with the other...

    She started then stopped

I I have a feeling I'm starting to board the same boat with you. My favorite hen started laying. Week ago, she gave me three eggs but hasn't the last three days. I feel like she's not touching her free choice oyster shells :(

Started offering oyster shell, now what? :)

My first hen just started laying a week ago and I panicked today when I realized that I forgot to start offering calcium and raced to the nearest feed store (TSC) to snag some oyster shell since we didn't have crushed egg shells readily available. I have a flock of 3 hens and maybe two...
