@casportpony I'm guessing you'll know the answer to this. I have a Muscovy drake that is lame. I finally caught him today, which was NOT an easy task even with him only putting weight on one leg, and nothing seems to be wrong with the leg so I'm guessing it's probably worms since he looks a...
Hey y'all, I need some help. I have an Ancona duckling that hatched out yesterday, and it has a messed up foot. I should've taken pictures before I tried to splint it, but it's too late now and it took me too long to do to unwrap it now. The way it's holding it looks like a slipped achilles, but...
Update: @Sally Sunshine I had one Ancona starting to hatch yesterday and 4 others still alive. I have quite a few Cochin eggs in the incubator, and some Muscovy eggs. My dogs killed my favorite Muscovy hen the other day, and I'm really hoping that I can hatch some of her eggs. I was starting to...
Thanks y'all. I have a baby monitor out there, but I usually keep it turned down during the day. If I had it turned up, I might would've heard the commotion in time to save it.
Wow, I haven't been on in a few days, and I'm too far behind to even try to catch up. My 8 week old EE flew into the back yard with my dog, and she killed it. It was my only EE. It had feathered legs and was super sweet. I feel like the worst chicken mom ever. :hit
I've recently started spraying my eggs with a 50/50 mixture of water and gold Listerine. It's supposed to kill any bacteria that could harm the developing chick. My first batch of eggs that I tried this with just went into lockdown, and none of them were early quitters.
I was candling eggs before putting them in lockdown a few minutes ago, and I found this. This is one of my own eggs, so it's not some weird thing from shipping. There's a small hole in the shell in the air cell area. As far as I can tell, the chick inside is fully developed, but I have no idea...
Buy a bigger incubator than you think you'll need (if you haven't bought one already). Hatching is addicting. And make sure you know how to assist with a hatch unless you just want to let nature take it's course.
I bred them to sell. I just always worry that someone else won't love them and care for them as much as I would. It sounded like this man has raised quite a few though so hopefully they'll have a good home. I ended up selling a few that I didn't plan on selling until I could tell for sure what...
A nice older gentleman came and bought 13 of my chicks for $2 a peice. I was sad to see them go, but I think they'll have a good home. I always worry about how well they're taken care of after they leave my house, but I try not to think about it too much. He wants to buy more from my hatch that...
She has her head up now, so maybe she's just laying. She hasn't let me pet her since the day I turned her loose to free range, and right now she's doesn't even flinch when I pet her.
I just found my goose like this. This is where she normally lays, but she's almost lifeless. Is this normal for a goose when they're laying? I'm freaking out.
13 chicks have hatched out so far. 11 of them are Bantam Cochins, and 2 are OEGB. I've already posted the black Cochins for sale, but I think I may hold onto one of the ones that has yellow legs since my black hen doesn't have yellow legs like she should. I'm also probably going to hold onto...
