Sorry to hear about your duck. :-( I accidentally dropped the heavy wooden coop door on a chick today when I was trying to get it to go into the coop. I thought for sure it was squashed flat, but when I picked up the door off of it, it hopped right up and ran off! Seems to be perfectly fine.
Interesting discussion on home schooling. I am a total public school supporter. I have been lucky enough to attend great public schools all my life, and I also LOVE the public school where my kids go. I feel like their teaching is a great balance of social skills and academics. The teachers are...
The boss hen will peck my broodies' chicks to show them who's boss. She doesn't attack or harass them though, just a quick peck here & there to put them in their place. The broodies allow this, I think because they know the other hens won't really hurt them.
Yep, I don't have a farm or anything, just my backyard, which now has 16 chickens in it. I feel like a hoarder, haha! Of course I won't be keeping them though.
@BantyChooks I hatched 3 eggs in the incubator (3 EEs and 1 Marans/Orp cross), the broodies hatched 1 egg (EE), and I also got 9 chicks in the mail. They are all doing great now. I have 13 chicks. Swimming in chicks. My yard is going to be a disaster. They are soooo cute though. :-)
My daughter will be 5 on December 1st. She loves crawly things too, especially bugs. We are home today cause she & my 7 year-old both have the stomach flu. :(
Here's the inside chickies:
The last one is my little spraddle leg chick. My son named him "Pipster."
Haven't taken pics of the outside chicks yet cause I was busy this morning trying to separate the broodies. They decided to fight over the chicks so I had to create a separate area for one...
I could not get her to stay in the cup so I taped her legs. Hope it will not be too hard to get off. I got more chicks in the mail today too so she has some buddies now and is happy. :-) She is getting around pretty well.
