Hard to see in the red light, but its a very pretty charcoal and yellow color. Its the egg from my favorite hen, so im pretty jazzed! The kids and i named her/him Bedivere from Monty Python's "The Holy Grail" ;)
Evenin', all! My hatch is underway! Ive got one chick out as of 11am, and waiting on pips from the other 4. Peeps not pips yet tho. Its a SFH from the SFH i hatched last spring, so this is second generation and i am excited, but sooooo hoping my faverolles hatch. Ive had chick on the brain all...
Hope you all had a merry holiday! I have 5 eggs in lockdown, and 4 are wiggling!!!! I know its only day 19 so im only periodically peeking into the incubator ;)
Oh no!! I am sorry :( i think polish are beautiful, and it sucks big time to lose one you were especially hoping to hatch :(. Thank you for the advice! Fiddling has been officially halted. I am off to feed my minions, but will be back on later. Take care all!!
Thanks! I (and my daughter) have wanted salmon favorelles foreeeeever and had ordered some over a year in advance from sandhill preservation, but they didnt hatch enough to fulfill our order, so we are both super excited to have salvaged some of these from really roughly shipped eggs. :D (3 out...
Mine wont go out the rain unless i haul her out by the scruff. Chicken turds are another story. She hunts them down with propensity and seemingly always after a bath, and always finds a way to share her "find" with me by rolling all over my covers. It seems like im giving dog baths atleast...
I have a question: day 9 my khakis, and i have two that are growing but the air cell is detached. I keep them propped up in canning jar lids so the air cells dont run across the center of the eggs. Should i quit turning those? I know they likely wont make it in all probability, but i keep...
Thanks, Frindizzle! I am well too, just waiting for dinner to finish up cooking and winding down for the night. Finished mucking out the coop a few min ago, its been so moist outside, it was starting to smell mucky irregardless of my deep litter method. Nothing too exciting to contribute, but...
Hope all are well this evening! Im just on briefly to catch up a few pages (out of the 100s sonce last night). @Ur-ur-ur-urrr, I hope you are all right!
Thank you. Im not as brave as most, but was given a second chance that im trying my best to do right with. :)
I never thought of keeping it in jars. I had a food grade bucket of it, covered with a cloth. Using jars is a great idea!
Is it twisted of me to say that i am jealous? I am waiting to get some my way, though my early planting of cold crops will do better without, this spring.
I used fermented feed for awhile and have debated about going back to it. Perhaps in the summer, but truthfully it SMELLS HORRIFIC and im not sure how id keep it from freezing in winter. I cant really tell you how to make chicken feed from scratch, but im really good with human food. Im 5 years...
Wait, just saw that you have TWO beautiful dobies! Well played, sir. I love big dogs, though myself have a cattledog mix now. My best friend growing up had a doby named Lance, and SOMEDAY i will have enough land that i will be able to get an irish wolfhound. Aaaanyway. Lovely pictures.
Good luck! Lockdown is the most stressful part for me, but also the most exciting. I have a batch of swedish flower hens and salmon favorelles going into lockdown on Christmas. Hope you get a nice turn out!
