AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

I’m only updating this old thread because I saw that I had posted on it long ago and mentioned that I was using my birds for a side project. I actually DID manage to get better quality birds from my lesser quality stock but I got rid of them anyway. I’ve been working on my project birds ever...

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

Well, they may be worth keeping around just to look for predators and as broody hens. If they forage well then it won't cost much to keep them.

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

I was thinking that perhaps I would eventually just throw these birds in with my free-range egg layers (I haven't free ranged any birds yet but that should happen this summer when I finish the coop area in my barn). They might be wild enough to be good free-rangers but so far the number of eggs...

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

I actually got my Ayam Cemani for a separate side project and most recently crossed them to Sumatra (which strangely seemed to result in the darkest chicks) but after I got a few birds I put them together to see if I might get some good quality Ayam Cemani chicks from sub-quality birds. Well, I...

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

Well...I was trying to find good example of skin color but hatched out a chick that lost some fluff when I pulled off the egg shell that had stuck to its back. I think this chick is darker than any of my adults but maybe they get lighter with age?

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

Do you know what line you have? I had someone tell me that their Ayam Cemani also lay well all year but they didn't know the line. I recall that some have suggested that the Smithsonian Line had been crossed with Leghorn at some point but I'm not sure if that is accurate but certainly would...

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

I'd like to see a photo that shows the skin under the wing of a live bird with really dark skin. I've seen pictures of cooked birds that look like they've been dipped in black paint but I don't know if they darken when cooked or what! I have birds with dark-ish skin and I'm trying to determine...

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

Thanks! I don't know specifically where you are in middle Tennessee but I do go to Nashville quite a bit if that's any closer.

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

Thanks! I'll grow these eight birds out and see what I end up with. They are so flighty that I haven't really looked them all over yet. They are still adjusting to. It being in their shipping boxes.

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

Anyone see any leg feathers in their Ayam Cemani? Admittedly my birds (I just got them) were culls from another breeder but I'm hoping that this line is at least pure.
