Seconding this, it's very possible I missed it as I skimmed many pages and skipped a couple others. Once eggs started hatching, posting went through the roof and I couldn't keep track of everyone! But I love seeing emus and I'd love to know how that hatch went.
My final count is 27 hatched out of 41 eggs.
That said, two hatched late (one was at the 22.5 day mark and the other hatched this morning at day 23.5, both assisted as they were upside down and made no progress after 12+ hours into zipping) and the most recent one died within an hour of me...
I see I'm super far behind in posts. It's day 22.5 here and I'm afraid to call it since I woke up to another chick and two more pips. Both pips have hatched now, but I'm afraid the second I say the hatch is over the remainder will start popping out
Of the 30 eggs that went into lockdown, 26...
Finally hit the day 21 mark! This will probably be my last update for the evening, although the incubator is still very active. 11 have hatched, 8 more have pips, no action from the other 11 yet but pips keep coming one at a time so I'm hoping for the best. One chick came out as an absolute...
This hatch is getting so exciting! I love hearing everyone's success stories and I can't wait to start seeing pictures of fluffed up chicks. I now have 3 chicks out and 8 more with pips (the most beautiful blue egg in this incubator is pipped low on the side of the egg, and another egg has been...
Coming up on the Day 20 mark... still no pips. I did pop the incubator open a couple hours ago to take out a sponge since the humidity was getting a little too high and I might have stuck the candler on the couple eggs in the front. At least two of the six I checked had internal pips and there...
This morning makes day 19.5 and... not one external pip. I know I have no excuse whatsoever to be panicking yet but I'm totally panicking. My first hatch of 20 eggs resulted in 2 chicks. My second hatch of 18 eggs resulted in 7 chicks. Now, my third hatch of 24 eggs resulted in 2 chicks. I can...
Thanks to all who commented on turning fertile eggs during storage prior to incubation. The only reason I question it is that I learned we turn incubating eggs so that the developing embryo doesn't stick to the membranes against the inside of the shell. Well, an egg that isn't incubating isn't...
A bit unrelated to the HAL but... if you're collecting fertile eggs to incubate and you won't be incubating them for at least several days, do you have to turn those eggs? My two turkey hens are laying and I'd like to collect several days worth of eggs before setting them. I'm collecting them in...
I'm jealous. Everyone's talking about peeping and pips and rocking eggs, and I'm just over here staring at a bunch of eggs doing nothing XD I have to keep reminding myself it's only day 19...
I'd say no. If it is, it's totally on the wrong part of the egg. My understanding is that they pip internally into the air cell, then externally in that circled area you have where the air cell is. If I'm even looking at the right thing, it may even look like a tiny nick in the egg from the outside.
That hen is super cute! I'm not sure if I've ever seen an EE that I didn't think was adorable. It must be the puffy faces That picture isn't my own birds, it's some of the parent stock to the eggs I have hatching today. The two chicks I have so far are both little dark ones, one is almost solid...
My current hatching batch is in egg cartons, I decided to keep them in the cartons for lockdown since their air cells were bad. The first two chicks that have hatched didn't have any problems getting out and I suppose the mess was contained, so I will probably stick these HAL eggs in cartons...
Woke up to two new babies from my pre-HAL eggs with bad air cells. Yay! Two little dark EE chicks. The other two that I know were kicking at lockdown haven't pipped yet, but Day 21 isn't for another 12 hours technically... pictures whenever I can take them out and let them dry off. I'm sort of...
That's awesome! Post pictures of the babies once they fluff up. I'd love to see the chicks, Ayam Cemani look really neat. I might aspire to add one or two to my flock one day just because of how cool they look.
Four days here! I have a few eggs due to hatch tomorrow that weren't for the HAL...
