I hatched 2 out of 39. But we have some fertility issues. We threw out 19 on day 7 that were clear and I can't actually candle my darker eggs, but turns out most of them weren't fertile either. Out of 39 I had 12 that were definately fertile. My husband thinks getting the auto turner will help...
How long do you leave them in the incubator after they hatch? I had one hatch (finally) around 2 this morning but he's still pretty damp (looking) should I leave him a while longer? So far I only have one hatch, but I have a second pip
There was a couple times throughout these 3 weeks when my temp dipped down a 2-3 degrees. Im really happy to hear peeping. And you're right being side tracked was a huge help. Admittedly I spent most of Friday and Saturday standing over my incubator
I was calling this hatch a scratch. 21 days was at noon yesterday. No movement. No pips no noise. Figured I'd give them a couple days and then scratch it
Got home from Easter with my family and I can hear peeping from the incubator. I only see one pip but it sure is a vocal little chick...
No pips or movement from my eggs but it's only day 19. I have to work tomorrow so will be gone from 230pm-130am. Hopefully they don't hatch while I'm away
Dumb question. I have an egg that is leaking goo and my incubator smells really bad when I open it. I couldn't candle that egg cuz it was too dark. Do I take it out and throw it? This is my first hatch.
It's always been like that since I got him at 3 days old last year. He still perches and walks but when he runs its kind of a gallop. He's pretty sweet and I don't think it hurts. I hold him and play with his weird feet and he doesn't seem to care. Just wondering if I should worry about it
I have one that got told the other day he's about to head to freezer camp. He attacked me then my husband (who's like a giant so I don't know what that chicken was even possibly thinking) but then he attacked my 7 year old when he was out getting eggs. Ferdinand (the rooster) and I watch each...
I have 3 roosters over 20 hens. They are all right at a year old (10-14 months). I'm not really sure which one is dominate. I have one that I see do the majority of mating (well the first time) but a different one will run the other 2 off on a regularly. I may have to spend some time watching...
I think I have a fertility issue. I set 19 white eggs, only 6 of those are fertile. I set 15 brown eggs and 5 green eggs but I can't see inside them very well. Should I be worried? Maybe it's just early and fertility will pick up?
I got an incubator this year and my husband has gotten really into the hatching part. Which is funny because he thinks the majority of my chickens are a pain.
Very true. I just wanted more colored eggs. One of our free chicks last year is an Easter egger and she leaves me pretty green eggs. I love the variety in our eggs cartons. White, light brown, dark brown, and some green. I would love to add a couple blue layers to our flock. Maybe some more...
I actually really wanted some ameracaunas this year but the feed store didn't order them and a minimum ship order is 25 and my husband will not be happy if 25 more baby chicks show up. I already had 3 in the brooder (8 now) and 39 eggs in the incubator. But these were so cute I couldn't pass them by
