I don't have any chicks that I hatched during the HAL because the whole hatched got cooked in the incubator during the classroom hatch, but I do have my substitute chicks.
My TSC bantam chicks that had to slipped into the incubator for the school/classroom HAL hatch that went bad. They are...
:barnie My incubator just played a very cruel fool's day joke, and i am NOT laughing. :somad just lost an entire hatch for an unknown reason. Temp was perfect, triple assesed. Humidty was just right, quadruple measured. 26 out of 28 were fertile and growing at day 7 candling. Day 13 candling and...
All these adorable fuzzy-butts. My Easter hatch was plagued with trouble and sunk miserably with 0% hatched. However, I have a new set of eggs in the incubator. I candled this morning (day 5) and all 28 eggs are fertile!!! 6 duck eggs and 22 chicken eggs.
I thought guineas were out of the question for us also. 4 neighboring guineas kept harassing our chickens and stealing their food. Then, DH tasted some guinea jerky and was hooked. We now have 6 keats in the brooder alongside our chicks. (They are getting along great.)
Totally bummed at the moment! The classroom hatch is a complete loss. 25 eggs were set and 0 hatched. We had some troubles early on with infertility and early quitters. Lockdown started Monday with only 6 eggs left. One of the eggs was questionable, but too dark to tell for sure.
Well...
I haven't incubated eggs that I haven't personally selected and/or transported myself. However, even traveling from a local breeder to my house is cause for me to rest the eggs. I let them sit on the counter untouched for 24 hours before incubating them. Then they are incubated air cell up in...
WOW!!! I haven't been online for a while and I am nearly 2000 posts behind!!
With everything that has gone on over the last couple weeks (Rec Soccer Championships, oldest turned 12 Celebration, impromptu trip to Orlando, FL to see family and go to Universal Studios) I haven't been able to post...
My local TSC got chicks/ducklings in this morning. Did anyone else's?
I went a bit peep crazy (on a budget) and now there are 6 RIR pullets 1 BR (straight run) and 2 ducklings in a warm brooder. Just waiting for bantams to show up. There weren't any at the locations closest to me. A bit...
Happy Valentines everyone!!! Hope everyone is having a peeptastic day!!
I know I am because... Oh Look! A feed store!... Oh Look! They have chicks!!... Oh Look!! I have chicks!!!
I know... I am so terrible... I don't know how DH puts up with me. I guess I will just have to him some chicks next...
Thanks. They have been making trouble for us for several months now, but I never thought they would go so far as to steal my hens! They have no direct access to their property from the road and use an easement on our property to access theirs. DH says we should fence it off and make the find a...
Sorry about being offline for so long, but I have been dealing some troublesome predators. I expect issues with coyotes, foxes, eagles, and other such predatory animals targeting my free-ranging flock. However, I never expected my neighbor to prey upon my flock. Over the last few weeks I have...
Currently in the middle of a hatch. Set five eggs and five eggs made it to lock down. There was obvious movement from all the eggs at last candling. So far, one chick has already hatched and one more is pipped!!! :celebrate today is day 21 so the rest maybe a bit late, but still so eggcited.
I...
Start collecting those eggs, but make sure you get the right species. Or things could get interesting at hatch time.
(Found this pic floating around social media in one of my chicken related groups/pages.)
