I don't check in here much anymore, but I am in Lexington. I am subscribed to this post, but for some odd reason only get an occasional post sent my way. heritage RIRs and a few others in my backyard. My hens are getting some age on them, but too attached to make chicken and dumplings, so we are...
FREE HENS
I live in Lexington and have 10 hens, 2 years old, that I need to rehome. What with the neighborhood dogs and kids harassing them all the time, I have given up. 7 heritage RIR, 2 Marans, 1 easter egger, laying good right now but are not youngsters anymore. I realize someone may want...
I am in lexington, my chickens didn't like yesterday's 2" of snow, suspect the 8 to 18 expected tomorrow will really freak them out. plan on tarping part of their run tonight to give them a little more snow free space.

for your vewing enjoyment
I hatched 13 heritage RIRs and 3 BRs. only 3 pullets in the bunch, so I bought 6 pullet chicks at Southern States (3 EEs, 3 Marans of which 1 is a roo), but should have enough hens to do me now. This is some of the ones I hatched
lovely roos everyone
this would depend on how shady your spot is. I can tell you that ventillation is more important than insulation. In wet spells the moisture as well as poo fumes can be a real problem. You are best if you make some options in your coop, so that more or less ventillation can be allowed depending...
