I wrote up an article on how to build one after getting tired of having to go through a million different "how to build a homemade incubator" articles to figure out how to wire the darn things. Not sure if they will keep it around, as I did use a few stock images, but I drew up the wiring...
Hey guys! Just wanted to share that I had an AWESOME hatch with my french black copper maran and EE's. All the FBCM have hatched except for two, one of which was either infertile or a very early quitter, and one who is currently pipped and chirping loudly! EE's and OE's were very similar. Over...
Eumorpha pandorus, from the Sphingidae family. They are pretty cool dudes! We call them camo moths! haha.
Incubation question! What do you do or what causes air cells to be all different sizes?!? I've got big ones, small ones, medium ones and lopsided ones! All are in the same...
What do you use now? I originally went with a wafer because Sally recommended it. I had good hatches with the first, but the second I ordered is welded on crooked, a different brand, and not as reliable imo.
Kinda, still a little wonky. I think it's the wafer. I think I got a bad one. Not too bad though. I think the hatch will be fine. I've got the eggs spread over 4 incubators for not all my eggs in one basket!
You may be correct, though they had been in 4 hours when I noticed (is that enough time to get to temp?) Either way, my new thermometer didn't get here today like they said it would, so still using an assortment of crappier ones. :tongue Hope your rain ends up being just enough and...
Yay for babies! I just stuck 5 dozen eggs in the incubator. Woot! BCM and EEs, and also two free Silkie hen X BCM rooster cross eggs, which I am curious as all get out about! I can only imagine how odd ball they are going to look :lau
If you are going to assist, make a small hole in the air cell end of the egg, and go very very slowly from there. Have warm water and a damp paper towel on hand to keep the membrane moist. If you see lots of blood vessels or yolk in/under the membrane, wet it down, cover is loosely with wet...
Always!
I'm not sure if that is possible for my incubator set up but I'm going to try!
I usually hatch dry, as I have problems with sticky chicks otherwise. I'll have to calibrate the new hydrometer once it comes in and see what it's reading at.
Hey guys, Incubating inquiry here! :jumpy
We just picked up a bunch of French black copper maran eggs (davis/jean line) so I need all the advice I can get on hatching these puppies! Cause DAAAAANG are they expensive! I've read they do better at 101F. Can anybody confirm this? :confused...
Well everybody except the really hoped for french black copper maran egg hatched in my little tupperware 'bator. Had 70% of the custom EE's and only 2 birchen marans out of 24 eggs. The birchens got up to 104 at one point though, so I'm not too surprised, just disappointed. The CCL's had...
Afternoon everyone. Today is looking up to be an abysmal hatch day. :( Only one birchen hatched during the night, and I'm not seeing any others even pipped. No CCLs pipped, no OEs, no BCL. Today is day 21. Using four different incubators, one was an auto-turner the rest were by hand. Feeling...
