Good news about Lord Dingwald! Yesterday morning, he woke me up (from his tub at the foot of my bed) crowing! I kept him inside (in the bathroom) one more night, and put him back outside with Lady Dingwald this morning. My fingers are crossed that everything stays good. He's missing some...
I'm in Oklahoma and have received my Dorkings from private breeders and have had terrible luck with them. I finally have a pair that I adore, but I had to buy them full grown, because every chick I've hatched has died young. I haven't gotten any fertile eggs out of my pair, but I haven't...

Fertility, I believe. The eggs going into the bator are showing no development. I know the first step is to open one to see if it's even fertilized. If it's not, I'll trim feathers. If it is, I guess I'll have to put a proven hen in there with them to see if it's Lord D's issue or Lady...
I had a roo who was my best friend until he discovered he was a he, then one morning he surprised me with a wholloping good peck on the top of my foot. That sucker hurt like a jackhammer thump and left a huge blood blister. After that, he would spread his wings and do that sideways run up to...
Cold hardiness, as in how badly impacted they are by cold weather compared to other breeds. Does it appear to stress their immjne systems more? Or do they hold up as well?
Thanks for the info on the humidifier. I never would have thought of that.
What do you guys think about Dorking cold hardiness? Lord Dingwald picked up a cough at the first cold snap and just can't shake it. I've tried Duramycin and Tylan on him. Now Dorcus has a bad cough after the last bad freeze, too.
@ki4got ... the black breast thing, does that mean my darling Dorcus here is a roo-in-training? If so, either someone is getting caponized, or Lord Dingwald will need to be rehomed.
@ Sydney Acres thanks so much for such a detailed reply! I've been digging for good feeder ideas for the big coop, and your information has helped me narrow down some of my potentials. I will definitely incorporate portability into the design after reading your reply.
@cukooformarans I read that very article and was already thinking of making one of those feeders! Right now I have the Dorkings in a large cage until the new pen is finished, so I can't put a big feeder in with them, but I'm going to adapt one of the pvc connectors to fit. The first thing this...
Dorking question! Love this pair that I just got, but the roo is the sloppiest eater I've ever seen! He is the biggest food waster, and he also seems to eat more than any other bird I've ever had. Is this typical of Dorkings, or is this just one young boy with terrible table manners? I'm...
I have been wanting Silver Grey Dorkings, and have attempted to hatch two sets of eggs now. The first time I got one chick and it dies two weeks later (I was devastated). This last time I got one chick and it's almost a week old and is doing much better and seems to be thriving.
So when I was...
I want to say thank you to everybody who helped me out with my chickie's health issues. My sweet Dorcus fought hard, but simply had too much to overcome. You guys taught me so much that I will be able to use next time, and it is greatly appreciated.
