Glad I saw this Karen! I believe I have a hen that matches this description! She is a SG. The white tips on her feathers did not my show up until her second molt. I kept trying to figure out which hen .was producing offspring with a few white feathrs in the cockerels chest with sooty coloring...
Looks like an additional handling fee per each addressed as shipped... ? Does that mean if there are 25 chicks being shipped there are 25 additional fees? I haven't read it entirely as I'm at work. I was hoping someone had already broken down the new charges... ???
Looks like they are trying to pass new regulations and prices on shipping poultry. Has anyone heard anything on this? I thought I would spread the word. I hope this doesn't violate any BYC rules sharing...
I use zip ties as well but haven't with a broody mama. Just a concern, is your broody very experienced? My concern is that she may peck at the color leg bands as some of the other chicks do and will. Ki4got, have you had banded chicks under a broody mama? I would hate for accidental injuries...
On feather sexing, its really suppose to be done on day one. From your pictures... I'd say 1-pullet 2-cockerel, 3-iffy...pullet? And 4-pullet. I have tried numerous times to guess their sex by the markings however; seems like its just backwards for my colored birds. By 4 weeks you should see...
Hey Speedy! Welcome! Since you posted a picture, I want to ask Ki4got about the coloring of your light red pullet. Out of 77 chicks I hatched, 2 of them are this color. What gene caused this color? Is it a random dilute gene? Speedy, looks like the other chick that color is a pullet too...
Hey all! I had someone contact me about purchasing 15 chicks. Unfortunately, I am in Washington State and she is in Grass Lake, MI. Anyone close enough to help/sell her some chicks? I don't ship chicks. She's very interested in helping preserve the breed and is a newby so will need a little...
Fingers crossed for you! My one & only broody is only 9 mos old. I was pretty surprised. They're due to hatch on the 9th. I wasn't going to let her initially but thought I would see if she sit it out. So far so good. She's determined! I'm hopeful the rest will follow suit this summer.

I try to keep the humidity at 35% during days 1-18. My aircells keep right on track. Monitoring your air cell size on day 7, 10, 18 will give you the perfect picture on whether your humidity is too high or too low. If they are too little, your humidity us too high & if they are too big, your...
