I use a couple of 5 gallon buckets with 4 nipples each, and also a 5 gallon with PVC and about 20 nipples in that one. Adults will discover it just fine.

I know this is all about chickens, but I thought you might enjoy a respite and see the Loinwizard in action, live from New York.... then I found out some podunk farmer had dubbed my fine production with piglets.... anyhow... here it is....

You are doing what you can. It doesn't hurt her and someday you may find it useful. As far as the temps, an adult bird is well suited for our temps. Shawn

I had trouble with mine last winter because the humidity was way too low. I could fill all channels and put a sponge in and couldn't get the humidity out of the 40's. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/how-to-incubate-hatch-eggs-using-the-dry-incubation-method That is the method I use.

A little bit more information is needed. You never said what the humidity was. Did eggs pip or only the 25% that hatched? I am male and understand the male condition. Do you know how to candle? Did you candle? Do you know what lockdown is? Did you raise the humidity during lockdown?

I begin hatching in March. My brooder is a 5x10 utility trailer boxed in with plywood with a mesh and tarp top and a door cut into the side. I use it to brood and also to transport birds and hog to processing. The 2x4's on top hold my 5 gallon bucket nipple waterers and usually 1 heat lamp. In...

Wow! I see prices have gone way up! When I stopped buying by the bag last summer, I complained if the cost was over $10.00. I feed my birds, chicks, and pigs 16% hog grower feed. The last ton I bought last month was $324.00 or $.16 lb or $8.00 /50lb I get this at Zanesville feed supply but I...

Only what I have heard, and some are people here. Perhaps I mispoke. Being a businessperson myself I have my share of people that do not care for me and that is putting it mildly I suppose. What I heard was horrible conditions, underweight birds, and terrible customer service. That said, I...

I wouldn't give the folks in Johnstown anything at all ever. That said, I don't know where to get that small amount in live chicks. You could incubate, or I have some first year pullets that just started laying (I am in Coshocton). The only pure breds I have are Barred Rocks. I have 82 birds...

Y'all know you can raise chicks this time of year in a garage or barn and they won't die? I raised 100 or so last year through the winter. They love the heat lamp for about 4 weeks or so and then their God given coat protects them.

Anytime y'all want to come out to Coshocton, our little 4 acre farm is open. Just be prepared ;) 8 dogs, 85-100 layers, 100-200 meat birds in the summer and 10 or so hogs at any one time, plus a goose. Breeds are just personal preferences. Most of the breeds are hardy enough for Ohio winters...

Your chickens have survived thousands of years without heat. To supply them with heat will, over time, make them into weaker birds. My birds, 100+, live in 2 barn stalls in a 75 foot barn with open eaves, and doors that do not close, and thrive. Any insulation you add, you are adding for...

I use a stock tank heater for my chickens. I have trough type waterers and a nipple system in 5 gallon buckets. Hopefully the nipples won't freeze but I keep the water inside and out of the wind. Typically this is molt time.

www.OhioPorkandPoultry.com Tamworth Swine are a heritage breed of hog. Heritage breed meaning that it is one of the older breeds that lost favor in the 50's when the factory farms started taking over. Tamworths are very lean, known for bacon, but more importantly to the sustainable farmer...
