When you buy domestic Mallards the hind claw on the right foot is removed from the hatchery to prove they are domestic. It should heal and do just fine. Good luck with him.
My all White large female Muscovy is my friendliest bird as she lets me pet her all the while I am stealing the eggs under her that she thinks she is going to hatch out. I just love her.
If you have a huge pen and places where they can get away from each other a bachelor flock might work. I never knew when I used to let my Mallard hatch out her babies that the hen is what determines the sex of the babies. She had 35 ducklings over the years and out of all of them 2 were hens...
What happened to me when I did that was my huge Muscovy drake tried to mate my Mallard drake so I ended up getting rid of both of them. I felt bad for the Mallard drake and could not stop the Muscovy from trying to mate him all day.
My rapey drakes started in March here, they are still going strong too. They won't want to quit until around October or November and even then will still act out every once in a while, just not as bad. I am lucky they are all small so that my girls do not really get hurt by them. My Hens...

I should have looked at your pictures again. Mine is laying flat on the ground. I never knew you stick them actually in the ground. I must sound really goofy, sorry, I have never seen or used anything like this before. I am going to go out and redo it.
I bought one of those traps and set it yesterday. I was not sure if you put the food down inside the hole of the trap itself? That is where I put mine. I am hoping not to get any of the neighborhood cats. Sorry, I did not have it set right, after looking at your pictures I see where I went...
At what age did you put your female Calls in with your males? I have two born the end of April and I was not sure if they would be safe at 3 months or if I should go ahead and wait until 4 or 5 months. They are fully grown and so interested in joining the rest of the flock. I just don't want...
Wow, you really had an infestation of those varmits Frank. I am so glad that you caught that many. We got three the year that they got two of my ducks before I invested in all of my metal pens. So far so good but I will not brag as that's usually when things seem to happen. Good luck with...
